What the heck is "Serpent's Bane"? Well, it's a most uncommon khukri. There's no initials on the ricasso, it may be a Durba, but the Nepali flag looks done in Murali's hand. The knife is 20" of gleaming Kumar Kobra. Why "Serpent's Bane"? Because prior to pulling a tour of duty in northeastern Afghanistan it was used with great notoriety down around Smithville, Texas to lop heads off of snakes. That's right Pappy, your old "snake charmer" is coming home as soon as I can find a proper box for it.

Here's the deal, most of the khuks from the forumites that went over with my unit to Afghanistan are greatly cherished and lovingly cared for. I got wind that this one had wound up gathering dust in an equipment locker and it about broke my heart. I guess some folks just don't take to khukuris, but that, IMHO, is no way to treat a proud warrior. It want's to come home and walk in the woods once again with its rightful owner. I'm happy to be of service in that matter. The miscreant troop that banished it to an equipment locker? I compensated him for the khuk monetarily after overcoming the initial urge to remove a bit of his hide.;)

How can somebody not like khukuris?
Thank goodness it is returning to someone who will appreciate it.

Sarge I never expected any one to return a knife that I give away. It sort of makes me feel bad that he would leave it somewhere that it could rust and handle dry up. I am with the others. I don't understand why he wouldn't like a kobra. The 20" is pretty handy for a lot of things besides MA's. Let me know how much you paid him for the knife. I will send it with the wood and such that I'm just getting together.

It IS shocking that someone would shove one of our children into a dark, airless locker.

Will she be all right?

Does she need a home?

Kinda reminds me of the WWII American servicemen bringing back katanas as curios from their tour in the pacific, only to leave them inn barns, garages, and attics to gather dust...no wonder Japanes are willing to pay top dollar for the return of some the heirloom-quality blades...

Nice save, sarge.
