I know we've covered this topic so many times. The tool that I'm most proficient with is a shovel. That should give you an idea of how much good I would be in a CQB situation.

But that doesn't mean I don't think about it: what if I did decide to carry an edged tool for serious social situations?

Well, double-edged stuff is illegal where I live, and I would want something that conceals a little better than a TOPS Mak-7 anyway.

So far, I've got three in mind.

TOPS Grim Ripper

I mean, what's not to like?

Cold Steel Mini-Tac Tanto

Nearly as good as the Grim Ripper. Maybe slightly better for armor penetration.

Finally, the Cold Steel Immortal

Not as good for Oper8tions, because it takes longer to deploy, but, more sharp part, and Triad Lock.

So what does the collective intelligence of Bladeforums think? Are these good choices (keeping in mind that I don't consider the Smatchet as practical concealed kit)? What else would you suggest?

Well, Doc. About 60% serious, 40%, not. More a topic for discussion than a "suggest a knife" thread, but I've seen this spiral out of control many times before, so I want to keep it on the lighter side: not full-on Practical Tactical, but not Tacticlol, either.

If you decide you're serious , I'll try to help .

Until then , no one can .

check out the new spyderco police 4 lightweight, the knife is very large but thin and light and easy to carry and doesnt cost too much. with a backlock, i feel it is an excellent choice and is what i carry currently. the wharncliffe endura in serrated or plane edge is also a great choice.

spdyerco and cold steel both also make some nice curved blades for SD like the spyderco matriarch and the cold steel talon which are both also very affordable and reliable knives.

Not sure about SD mechanics as it isn't in my job description but I like the Spydercos with personal defense style blades on Delica or endura frames/ handles because I carry those two so much its intuitive to take it out of the pocket
