this has been some years in the making. in 2008 i asked Richard j to make me a hog hunting knife an this was his design a 6" drop point, long enough to dispatch but nimble enough to skin, clean, an do some deboning, an he named this model "kalama" which i am honored buy. my friends an hunting partners call it the "big ugly",but it is the best outdoors knife i have used over the years. i have traded an sold many knives here but this one will never leave. an everyone likes to use the big ugly. it is very comfortable skinning it has tasted cow, deer, hogs, goat, ahi "tuna". holds a great edge with its chisel ground convex blade an can get razor sharp, hell it came with an awesome razors edge. as an outdoor/camp/bushcraft knife it is unbelievable. chops like a beast with its 6" blade, batons very well, feather stick an shaves awesome. its rubber handle an shape makes it so comfortable an a joy to use. it is a true warrior of a workhorse knife. i highly recommend his knives an sharpening services, but i dont know if he still makes knives anymore, but you can try an ask him.

P.S..sorry richard wish i had all my pics over the years but crashed my hard drive an lost a lot of pictures. even the hog dispatch video of your knife in action.

this hog was taken with kalama

for 6" blade bites deep

chops great took 6 chops on each side

batons with no problem

when skinning the pinch grip is awesome on this knife

he is a custom maker..goes by richard j on the forum

He isn't making knives or doing sharpening anyways.

Geez Karda. Way to kick a guy while he's down. :thumbdn:

Doesn't change the fact who made the knife, or what his handle here is. You know that while Richardj was active here, he had a manufacturer membership. I'm sure when he's ready to come back, he'll renew it.

PS - You need to change your custom user title...

You need to keep your trolling to the appropriate forum.

So if one posts a picture of a knife, one cannot say who made it unless the maker has a certain membership level here?!?

Or if one asks "Who made that knife?" does "this is for informational purposes only, and I have no intent of buying a knife from this maker" need to be appended?

Maybe a mod could chime in...this is news to me.

I guess, my point being, any positive review could potentially be considered a recommendation.

Seems like a fine line and I certainly would not want to cross it!

Let's not derail the review thread please.

Of course we can discuss who made a knife but that's not what happened here. Look at post #2. The question was asked on how to order one and someone answered. Richard is a great guy but he's no longer has a knifemaker membership so the business discussion (ordering or how to order) should be handled off the site. You're are right though...it is a fine line and info is exchanged in other forums here in regards to contacting a maker for business. It comes down to common sense....is the maker taking advantage of the site to do business without the correct membership or is it just a little info being passed on? One is okay and the other...not so much. :)

To the others that decided to take shots at each other, you know better.

Thank you for the clarification! I was thrown by the "may not be recommended" claim. And you have clarified the difference between "who made it?" vs "how can I buy one?"

Thanks again.

sorry about that i haven't checked his status in a while now.
