Didn't see any posts committed to this: would like to discuss steel with veteran swordsmiths also open to help find info for aspiring knifesmiths I've went from crap to good supliers and have mixed skills. Recently transition from coal to forge( what a relief ) Currently I'm having probs with folding brass around 1084 steel. The brass is from a lowes kickplate for door. Melts like zinc from a penny.

Not trying to be smart with you, but asking a real question, and filling out your profile with real information may be more likely to get you some assistance from the pros.

Sorry, just had to:

Conan: What gods do you pray to?
Subotai: I pray to the four winds... and you?
Conan: To Crom... but I seldom pray to him, he doesn't listen.
Subotai: [chuckles] What good is he then? Ah, it's just as I've always said.
Conan: He is strong! If I die, I have to go before him, and he will ask me, "What is the riddle of steel?" If I don't know it, he will cast me out of Valhalla and laugh at me. That's Crom, strong on his mountain!

I would hope the pros were as obsessed as I. Forgive me, I just got the net and came straight here. I didn't know every hobbyist could just type n get info it took my adult life to learn. I'm not being a boob, I thought the ques. was legit. I typed it up n found it's called a habaki. Seen a pic n recreated it. I've only had books before

I posted this before I found anything or went to chat. Everyone has been so helpfull and i've found the other sections. Didn't know what a habaki was till that Wed. night. Shep if you would please leave some sites n info here. It's a referance point for me n I'm sure someone else will stumble along like me. I've been so wrong I have to get it right.

Any advise or guidelines for tempering 1080-84 throwing knives, bad recipies n testing eatin up my steel. 425x3 maybe? Draw Blue?
