The right opportunity. November score!

The Duder has been in the market for a new Fiddleback for a while now. But with such a wide range of variants and flavors, I've been known to put myself to sleep just thinking of which one to go with. 1/8" or 5/32", 01 or CPM-154, scandi or convex, tuxedo or maroon micarta, small, medium or large, Woodsman or Duke, Recluse or Terrassaur? For a Fiddleback junkie with limited funds these options can drive one crazy.

I'm a firm believer in "Haste makes waste". Instead of buying a Fiddleback on a whim, I chose to buy my time. Wait for the right opportunity in the forum shadows and when the right moment comes along, take the leap of faith and don't look back. Sounds dramatic I know, but so is spending this kind of scratch on knives (in my wife's eyes).

Well my fellow Fiddlebacks, the right opportunity came. There was a hell of a offering on the exchange and I just couldn't help myself. I have a system for purchasing knives. This came out of necessity more than a voluntary decision; I sell my luxuries (my knives) to buy luxuries (other knives). This works out great in the whole family scheme of things, because I'm not dipping into the checking or savings. However, the suspense of seeing an offering you absolutely have to have, and then posting your blade on the exchange and hoping it sells before the ones you want sell, is enough to throw some grey hairs on top of old Duder's melon. But, with all the stress and 10,000 refresh button punches, it all worked out and Duder scored!!!

I scored these two matching 1/8" 01 maroon micarta Fiddlebacks! A Terrassaur and a Kephart!
I wanted to post them clean and pretty much brand new. I've never been one for patina, but after seeing the awesome patina you guys drop on these, they're getting stained up! Any suggestions?

Looking good Duder. I had a tough time of letting them go for so low but I had other Fiddlebacks that were on my radar that I wanted. Enjoy brother!

As far as patina goes; you can force it on through different methods but I just prefer to let it come out naturally through kitchen use/food prep.

Excellent thread Duder and beautiful knives! I truly feel great empathy with your knife quest.

Sincerely,
Mark

Thanks Maw. Being from limited means, the quest is a hard one, but I will "endeavor to persevere" hahaha.

Duder,

Congratulations on a well orchestrated walk on the tightrope of knifery! I am currently attempting to do the same …

I am also compelled to give you a shout out for using one of my all-time favorite move quotes ("endeavor to persevere") … I use that one myself and it applies more times than one would imagine!

Use them well, Brother. Great score.

Thanks. It is a great quote from a great movie. That whole movie is filled with classic lines.

Hey Duder - congrats on that sweet combo brother! I know exactly what you mean about the endless FBF option, it can be a bit daunting and at the same time very exciting! Enjoy!
