The S-1, F-1 or the A-1 Fallknivens?

I recently became interested in purchasing a new Fallkniven. I was pretty impressed with the reviews of three of their top outdoor type knives, the S-1, F-1 and A-1. I like all of them, but can't decide which to buy. I will use it for general camping and outdoors type chores and activities and will not use it too gently. Which do you think I should buy? I would really appreciate any guidance you could give me! By the way, money is not really an issue in this choice.

Hi Andrew...

Well you've got a hard choice to make indeed.
I own the entire fleet of Fallknivens and I'm pretty much hard pressed to pick one.

I have had the AI the longest, but the SI is really starting to grow on me.
For heavy duty work I would definately take the AI.

The FI although much smaller than the other two has it's time and place as well.

All said and done,, you will be hard pressed to find a better set of production knives Anywhere. They are all fantastic blades and will do any task you ask them to.

Then again,,if money isn't a problem,,grab the entire set and save yourself the hassle of having to choose!

Hope this helps!

It is fairly easy to pick between the S1 and the A1 as they are very different blades. The A1 has a sabre grind and thus is much thicker and stronger. It also has more mass which makes for a more powerful chopper and splitter. The S1 has a full grind down to a convex bevel and it will easily outslice the A1. The F1 is even smaller still with a full grind like the S1 and is nicer for finer work. It has a v-ground bevel instead of a convex one but this is easy to change if you want.

Which one is best suited to you depends greatly on the kinds of cutting you will be doing. If I had to guess the S1 would be a decent choice as it is in the middle. If you don't like the convex bevel, and some people don't, then you can easily v-grind it.

Like Normark said, if money isn't a problem, go for a set. I have the A1 and it's a keeper. I just sent away for the WM, their smallest, because I think the big knife / small knife makes the perfect set to do everything needed.

The A1 isn't too big at all, and it will do everything but the finest work, which is where the WM comes in. It's the one I'll use for whittling and preparing meat, etc.

Will you need it for chopping, or will you bring a lightweight axe (which makes a lot of sense performance wise)? If you do you'll want an S1 or A1, the F1 is no good for chopping, but on the other hand better for some kinds of cutting as it's not as thick.

Have you considered the WM1? It's so lightweight that bringing it + S1 or A1 isn't much of a problem.

I hear the South Park movie is R-17 in the USA. Due to the language used. Here it's got a 7 year old limit, and wouldn't have even that if it wasn't for the violence.
