The search for a sgian dubh

My Ladys family is Scottish, and I've been thinking/toying with the idea of getting a traditional sgin dubh with the family crest on it for her.

A lot of the ones I've been finding are resin handled and of unnamed "stainless steel". I'd like to find one made from the traditional bog wood, with a good quality steel, with the correct family crest on it [buchan], and it would really be smashing if it were made in Scotland [though that's not an absolute must].

I did find these guys but I know nothing about them;

I'm not sure if they are reputable, well made, known builders or not. Thier prices seem good at any rate, but perhaps there's a reason for that?

I was curious if anyone has heard of them, or conversely had any other suggestions/ideas? Any thoughts and/or ideas would be appreciated - thanks!

It looks nice in the pictures, but it's just so hard to know that you're really getting the product they advertise with the internet these days so it ultimately is a gamble. Were I in your position, I'd probably start asking different knife makers about making one of these for you- maybe makers that specialize in traditional style/ethnic design knives? I assume the specific materials you want can be acquired with a little effort, although this probably will end up costing a lot more...

Maybe I'm just that much of a sap when it comes to my lady, but if I were giving a gift like this, I'd spend the extra money for a custom that I know will be nice in every way rather than take my chances with an unknown company. If I didn't have the money right now, I'd start saving.

Good luck, and please be sure to share pics of whatever you decide to go with!

Two cheap ones available from Kult of Athena, made in India, unsharpened but look pretty authentic.(hope this is not deal spotting).

i wear one from them sometimes and like it.remember the price is in pounds.a kilt forum like xmarksthescot.com can also give you leads on sources.

Just a brainstorm here, but I imagine the knife to be made by Rick Marchand with the clan crest in pewter inlaid into the handle oron the sheath somehow.
Crest Badges are all over the web for sale in pewter, silver, brass, etc many sizes too.
It would be a one of a kind and become an instant heirloom for the clan

No finanacial involvement, but I do want to be Rick Marchand when I grow up.
