For me the journey down the River of Fire began just over a year ago, and lasted one year to the day. I saw the River of Fire Sebenzas and Mnandis around, and thought they were really nice but never really pursued one. Then Brendtech posted one in the Exchange. Not just any ROF, but a Large. A Large with very nice inlays and a beautiful pattern in the Damascus. And the one with the bronze thumbstuds instead of the usual gold. I saw the price and managed to resist..... for about a minute. Come to Momma, my expensive little pretty! A few days later it arrived, and I understood the hype on these...
A special Idaho project that came together when CRK got some River of Fire damascus from fellow Idahoan Bill Burke, and had a piece of Syringa (Lilac) wood, which is the Idaho state flower, and the great idea to put them together. A total of 10 large Sebenzas, 17 small Sebenzas, and 17 Mnandis were made. This is the large...
A few months later the chance to add a Small presented itself, and my bank account shrunk some more....
A Mnandi came and went, but I didn't go after it. I should have. A few months after that, I decided I wanted to complete the trilogy, so the hunt was on for a Mnandi. Even offered up something more valuable in trade. Then my quest seemed to derail, I let someone pry the Small away from me. I also sold 2 other knives in the same week, which made a difference. I was missing my Small pretty bad, so I reached out to MVG to see if he'd sell any or all of his. He said he'd only consider selling the complete set, so I made him an offer. He took a couple days to think it over, came back with a slight tweak to the offer, and the trilogy was mine. Off to the Anticipation thread with me......
You can all guess what I was doing at work all day when the tracking showed the knives out for deliver, refresh...... refresh....... refresh. I got home finally, and this is waiting for me.
This pic is a shout out to MVG, for packing them so carefully.
OK, I know what you're really here to see, some CRK's!
Here's the newly arrive trio in the same pose MVG showed them off in, except my pic isn't as nice.
His version...
And here they are with the large already living here...
Just the blades. Notice that on the first and third the river flows upstream from the tip to the pivot, and on the second and fourth the river river flows downstream from the pivot toward the tip.
A good look at the pretty Lilac inlays...
And a few close-ups.....
Hope you've enjoyed this trip down the River of Fire.
