As a non-Sebenza owner, I would like to know whay some Sebenzenistas consider the Wegner to be so similiar to the Sebenza. I have a Wegner and I don't really see the similarity. I also want to know ihow you would compare the Carnivore as a solidly built folding work knife in terms of lockup and cutting ability, not in terms of fit and finish or just being pretty.

Anthony,
This is a very good question you bring up. I'm a Wegner owner, don't have a Sebbie, will be getting a Carny soon.
I don't understand the Sebenza/Wegner comparision either. I can see how the Wegner and Carny might be compared (G-10 handles, similar size, similar blade style, ergonomic handle shape).
I'm interested in what others will have to say!

AC, great question! Let's see if I can shed some light here. I may have been the one who started that Wegner/Sebenza comparison you're referring to. The reason the two came together in my mind was that both are considered excellent real-world working knives. If you can picture the Wegner without the Spydie hole, I think the blades do share a similarity of geometry. Both have deep bellys, and are variations on the Loveless drop point design. The Integral lock of the Sebby is similar to the liner lock of the Wegner. Both utilize high quality materials (ats-34 and G10 for the Wegner, BG42 and ti for the Sebby). If you read reviews of both knives, the one thing that is most prevelant is owners stating that to really appreciate these knives, one has to USE them, and use them hard. Another thing I note is that neither knife has any feature which is not functional. Everything about these knives is there for a purpose, nothing is for "looks" only. In fact, neither of these knives would win a beauty contest. I personally like the looks of both, but there's no denying that there are many "sexier" knives out there. As far as the Carnivore is concerned, I would not consider any knife with a recurved blade to be a working or user knife when compared to either the Wegner or the Sebenza. REKAT's Pioneer series would be much better suited for a daily user knife. If someone were to ask me to recommend an awesome user knife (folder), my first question would be how much they want to spend. Depending on that answer, I would recommend either the Sebenza or the Wegner.

I see what you mean about the recurved blade. In fact, I thought about my drop point Pioneer before i posted this thread. Still alot of people to use recurved blades for uitlity like the BM 710 & AFCK or Pinnacle to name a few.

Good point. I don't consider the AFCK to be a true recurve, but the other two Benchmades you refer to definately have a slight recurve, and look like they'd be fine for daily users. I also was thinking of the Commander after I posted my answer; I think there are at least a few BF members who carry the Commander on a daily basis and would make a strong case for it as a great using knife. I still think that the Wegner and Sebenza are more suited for daily use than any recurve out there, however that is simply my opinion, not based on any actual "head to head" testing with recurves. (it may be simply due to the fact that I find recurves more difficult to sharpen regularly!
