The Secrets of the E Handle....

I normally don't give performance reviews of any sort, but as a Busse dealer, forum moderator, and owner of plenty of Busse knives, I feel the need to share some quick thoughts on the coat-tails of using my E Bolo Variant (yes....I admit, I kept it for myself as it is the genesis of the AP Limited Bolo project, care of the genius of Jerry Busse).

Until the E Bolo, I have never known a large knife to not require wrist action in chopping...in fact, I believe wrist snap is key to generating power in the last few inches of a chopping stroke...as I said, until the E handle.

Aubrey and GRNamin can attest to this when we did the free hanging paper test in Greg's office in NYC...when Aubrey came to the US to pick up his E prototypes.

The E knives separated the paper like water when using a straight wrist (not locked hard but simply held firm). When implementing wrist action, the edge would engage the paper at a hard angle to cut, and would not cut all the way through...when straight wristed, you could almost feel like the spirit of Moses was in the air. Paper was separating all over the place.

The same is true of my experiences just now...believe it or not, I am sending this very knife to a friend and customer as a loaner for his wilderness trip...Strabs. I was just stropping it up for the trip when I thought I would do a few chopping strokes on my pine knife throwing logs just for fun...this knife bites deep into wood without much power required...kind of like an excellent golf stroke.

Albeit the bolo design is killer for chopping, I could not help but be impressed over and over with how I did not need to use any wrist snap to get the knife to bite...it takes a little getting used to, but a firm wrist yields better performance, and YES, you guessed it, requires less effort, translating into less fatigue.

In addition, the way the backstrap of the knife cascades across the palm gives the wielder so much handle meat to hold that there is no sharp space between the handle and hand, which can produce some discomfort in chopping with a big knife.

Kudos to Jerry for what will be a revolution in handle comfort when these knives start shipping this month. I know EVERYONE will be pleased...I know I am!!!

I shall now wait at my door for that sweet little mail lady.

Strabs,
Have some sheets of bond paper handy for when you get the bolo. You ought to try some mid-air paper slicing with it just for fun. Just yell "clear" or "fore" just before swinging.
