I just picked up the May 2001 issue of Tactical Knives(MAY???) It had a real nice article on the Commander...

LOL

I saw that.

I was a little stunned when I saw the article. I didn't know it was a secret. For the last three years I've been telling anyone who would listen!

Yeah, I just picked that issue up. The good people at Tactical Knives must be puffing on the good stuff. I mean did'nt the Commander win Blade Magazine's knife of the year a couple of years ago ??
If this was a secret it was the worst kept secret in history.

Donald.

Not exactly a timely article, was it?

So...this new knife is called a Commander?
Do you know where I can find pics of such a knife? On Benchmade's site maybe?

One thing is for sure, by the time Steven Dick gets done evaluating knives, he is going to be living in a barren State...every damned tree, bush and blade of grass will have fallen.

TAC KNIVES is pretty sorry as magazines go. I apologize if I sound a bit harsh but I don't like the mag. I think that FK was much better and more interesting although Mr.Walker seemed to be increasingly adversarial in his commentary towards the end. I do miss FK. BTW what ever happened to Greg Walker? I have not seen or heard about him in years.

Ark,
Fighting Knives was the best!Every so often I pull out the very last issue just to look it over every once in a while. There has never been another replacement

I think the 'secret' the article referred to is the wave feature, not the commander knife itself. "SECRET" Navy Seal blade opening feature, eh?? And I read right hear that the wave was concieved as a type of guard, for blocks. The wave opening function was an unintented, but arguably much more useful consequence.

Which one do you believe?

This issue was my first purchase of TACTICAL KNIVES magazine, and it's likely to be my last.

Does the word 'commander' get a capital "C" in this forum?????

Hear! Hear! Fighting Knives Magazine! Much better than Tactical Knives Magazine, which I buy because it is the best out now.

Hear! Hear! For FK's Sister Mag, Full Contact.

You know, I missed some of the "middle to last" issues of FK, and when I was able to buy them used, I was shocked to see nearly nekkid womenz in them...some was uhmmm, kinda fugly...but some of'em were rather niiiice...

Anyways, just a rather odd observation, I don't know what happened in that "middle" area, but it was strange...

But I too miss FK very much. I think one of the reasons why is, Walker/FK never really did shy away from the topic of responsible Self-defense measures with an edged weapon...

With Tactical Knives Mag., you get the distinct impression, regardless of the articles they run or Kasper's Column, that if they thought they could sell the Magazine without that sort of thing, they would in a heartbeat.

Okay, I just picked up this issue. First, I have to say that TK holds a special place in my heart because it is the magazine that introduced me to my obsession...er, sickness...I mean deep interest in knives; I don't know whether to love it or hate it.

At any rate, in response to the Emerson article, I have to say:
"WELCOME TO THE PARTY, PAL!" -Bruce Willis

I think Steven Dick has probably lost some respect from some knife people that are in the know. I don't really consider myself that much "in the know", and I lost a little respect for him. I generally think he is a fine writer, but come on! He easily could have written the article differently. Geez

Ark,
I agree, FK was #1. Last I heard was that Greg Walker was working as a LEO in the Oregon area. Wonder if he lurks around here under another name?
The current knife mags out there do leave alot to be desired but they do serve a purpose. The wife gets real mad when I drag the computer into the john to read so the mags have to do.

Hey Ark,
Since I don't own a laptop I leave wires and cords all over the place
