man, as soon as i entered the local store i buy knives at, the shallot caught my eye. in the pics on the forum, it seemed like a very large knife, but i was surprised to see that it was slim and easy to carry. this is an awesome piece for sure, and its low price makes it such a great deal. the assisted opening is real nice too. i havent been this happy about a knife in quite a while.

all i can say is props to ken onion on another fine design.

I agree. I like to think of it as a large Leek. It's different enough from a leek to not be one, but it's so similar that it makes me think of a Leek. I really like this knife too.

That's funny because I think of the Shallot as a bigger Scallion or Chive. While they all maintain the clean arching line along the spine, only the Leek has the almost-straight blade. I think the Leek fits in the least amongst the group.

When Shallots first arrived at the store I work at, I was very impressed. I made it a point to spread the Shallot love around and suggest this knife, along with the Cyclone series, to anybody looking for a good, tough folding knife.

I really like the tip on the Shallot compared to the Leek. Not enough people know how to care for a thin tip, so the Shallot is right up their alley.

Overall, great design, nice amount of kick from the Speedsafe, and still slim enough to carry each and every day. Fairly simple looks, but overall a real winner from Kershaw.

I just received my shallot from New Grahams today (super fast as usual).

I have to say that I was blown away by the fit and quality of this knife. This is my first AO knife from Kershaw, and it is fantastic! I have a SOG blink that I really like, but opening it can be a pain. The Shallot just pops open like butter. The lock up is tight. There is zero wiggle or play. It seems to be a solid enough folder to handle just about anything thrown at it, but carries slim enough that it would be easily at home in a nice pair of slacks.

About the only off spec thing I can find is that the grinds are just a tad higher on one side than on the other. This is not big deal. First of all, I'm used to khukuris. Those monsters have all kinds of quirks:D Secondly, this is a fifty dollar knife with great blade steel, stainless handle, liner lock, and AO...I think I can overlook a little off center grind for that kind of value:thumbup: Finally, it isn't anything that I can't fix. My Kershaws have all come very, very sharp...however, I like to touch up all my knives until they scare the hair off my arm.

In short, the Shallot is my 3rd Kershaw in 30 days. I've been told that my father-in-law picked up Kershaw for me down at Smokey Mt. Knife works for my birthday next month. I'm willing to wager that it's an Outcast;) Also, if we really do get those tax rebates, I'm plunkin' down part of it on a ZT 302:D

im a spyderco fan as well, but i dont think the tenacious will be anywhere as good as the shallot is, though i havent handled the tenacious.

I'm gonna have to agree. While I LOVE spyderco, the Shallot has been a fantastic purchase at the price point. I've been flipping it open and closed non-stop for the last week. Great fit, great finish, great knife all around. Factor in that it costs $50, and you have a real winner.

I got the Shallot. I've haven't given it a good workout, but I sure do like it!:D
