I realise that most of us are at least amateurs as far as cutlery is concerned . We surely all like a nicely made blade . I wager that at least some of us extend this to all our cutlery ? When did we start using forks as opposed to spooning our tasty treats . I have feasted a time or two where the main implements were a wooden spoon and bowl . While I am not opposed to eating in this manner ,
it is not entirely to my taste . (real bad pun intended ) When did we start using simple forms of forks and knives and which came first . I have no doubt it was the knife for stabbing but there must have been different levels of refinement due to circumstance ? Certainly spooning up a stew or soup would be the way to go . I am interested in learning about (and possibly making) a simple two tined fork . If there is any information as to flat forks as opposed to curved tines that would be of interest as well .

THE BLACK CASTLE

Just the name conjurs up images of dungeons and N,er do wells . This is proabably a completely historically innaccurate movie with enough anachronisms and just downright improbabilities to bother any history buff . Its a fun movie though . You get to see neat costumes with all the trappings of an oppulent country rascals lifestyle . Just wait till you see the pit of alligators it would take half the countryside to feed one meal . I,m pretty sure these little armored gems would have been feeding each other , (Literally) they were so crowded !
Anyway 7:30 K:S:T: (Kevin standard time ) On M:P:I:X .

P:S: It is there I saw the two tined fork that I am asking about on my other thread . If its in this movie it must be true ! L:O:L

The link is to a anyone-can-contribute encyclopedia. The article says the fork was invented by the Romans AND the Italians centuries later. I think it was invented by Edward the Forkbeard, a famous 6th Century cook from Engand. or was it Ireland? He was tired of getting food stuck in his forked beard and had a blacksmith make an iron substitute. Viola! The fork.
