The Sharp Machine

If you cannot hand sharpen you should not machine sharpen, just saying.

If you are sharpening at a Gun and Knife Show or a Flea Market, you wont make much money hand sharpening. I used to hand sharpen knives once a week for a restaurant. About 35 knives. They wanted them razor sharp. I used an Edge Pro Apex. It would take me literally hours to get them all done. I can definitely see a use for a power sharpener. This one uses low rpm on the belt. Looks pretty good but priced high (not all that much higher than a Wicked Edge or Edge Pro)

The difference of a hand sharpening and me using my 2 x 72" knife making grinder is that with the machine the belt or stone moves instead of me. Just watch out for heat and I always use fresh belts.

I would look for a machine that takes 42" belts and is variable or adjustable in speed.

Better belt selection at that length.

Looks like you won't have any issues then ;)

These two machines should be given some attention:

Note the AMK 75 has some feature that enables it to be variable speed.

Note the house of blades machine is built of metal.

Yes, both of the machines you listed look pretty good. The AMK may be a little bit more versatile. I wonder how durable the motor is?

The variable speed is a nice touch. I emailed the maker and he said the belt speed ranges from 350 to 3000. I am not real big on the knife clamp system he came up with, but otherwise it looks good.

What clamp system do you like?

I, have used the Tormek system for years, therefore that may explain why the AMK system is AOK.

Robert Sorby uses the same system - my favorite among what we are discussing is the Tormek because it does not require any tools (the thumb nut is an integral part of said clamp).

Two more machines:

The AMK 75, for sure is one great bargain (again my opinion).

The clamp system (the way it looks on the AMK-75) would hinder smaller blades (especially at low angles--which you would want on a small blade--such as a Swiss Army knife). I could be wrong though.

This may be a better example of how the SMV - 00 is utilized.

Some of the time I am using my holder with a belt machine simlar to the AMK 75, at other times with a "very old" Tormek, and often with paper wheels on a bench grinder utilizing the Tormek BGM 100.

Instead of going in to the old folks home - I use these toys as my baby sitters.

Thanks

Been using this system for about 6 months now, used to use the Apex Edge Pro. Going to weekly shows, this is my go to machine for sharpening customers knives. Low speed does not create near enough heat to de-temper the knife, and I can give customers a razor sharp knife compared to msot anyone out there using Edge pro or Wicked Edge, but in a much faster time. Using 220 to leather, this is a awesome machine.

Do you use Mr. Poe's clamp system or etc.?

At this time I use Mr. Poe's first generation clamp (using spacers).

Will order his newest generation clamp, that does not require spacers.

I spoke with AMK owner today and asked him about full flat grind blades. Sounds like one still has to use spacers for them.
I own Sharpmachine and get very good work from it but ths one looks to have enough added features that I might order one to play with.
I"m kind of a geek with these gadgets though and own many of BF's list of usual suspects
