the sheath for my Hankins Fighter

my pal wildmanh (who posts here often) recently completed a leather sheath for my Hankins Fighter.

I asked to him to use very thick leather, and he didn't fail, if that leather were on the bottom of my shoes it would never need replacing. I measured it with calipers: 0.220".

Second design requirement: nothing fancy. I like the simplicity of a Kabar sheath and wildmanh used that sort of design plan.

Third: belt loop all the way to the pommel.

Fourth: two handle straps. Well, as it turns out, wildmanh used the same super-thick leather for the straps. Since he didn't actually have my Hankins knife in-hand to install snaps, he simply sent me the straps without snaps. (And it turns out the snaps I have aren't "long" enough to fit through the leather. So in the meantime I made two simple straps until he can obtain and mail to me the correct snaps. These temporary straps are what you will see in the pictures.).

All in all: this is the second sheath wildmanh has made for me and both are superb !!

Pictures: wildmanh will add them to this thread, I'm somewhat computer-challenged.

Cheers,

Carl

Carl, I'm glad you like the sheath. I'm sending out the long snaps this week. Here are the pictures. These are some pictures NPG took of the sheath cause I can't find the pictures I took of it before mailing it to him. Enjoy!!

Carl, just a suggestion....can you attach the straps between the two layers of the belt loop? The way you have them now, they (the straps) will be making contact with the blade every time you extract the knife, and will be nicking it. In time, you'll be slicing that strap to smithereens.
By attaching them inside the belt loop, they will spring away more from the blade when they get un-snapped.
Just a suggestion...

rayban,

Excellent Suggestion !! I don't recall ever seeing a strap on the inside of the belt loop.

ya know, I never thought of that .... and being a mechanical designer I should be quite embarrassed. Yours is such a simple and very elegant solution.

Cheers and Thanks !!!

Carl
