Finally I am getting a few pix posted.

This is Manakamana, one of the holiest of Hindu shrines in Nepal, picture taken during our Feb. visit. From r to l, Pala, Poonam, Uncle Bill, Yangdu and sister Sanu. We are getting ready to enter and receive the blessing of the goddess. Notice shoes and belts, leather items, are not worn. We left them with a nice sauji nearby.

A foreigner is not allowed entrance to this shrine but with the help of family, especially Sanu's (far left) husband, Nabin, who insisted I was "half Nepali", a knowledge of language and customs, I was able to enter and receive the blessing and be granted my single wish.

Locals said I was the only "queerie" who had ever entered the shrine and received the blessing of Manakamana.

My wish did come true, by the way.

What has this to do with khukuris? You guessed it!

Uncle Bill, unless I'm mistaken, the identity of the people in the photo should have been listed as "from right to left." But it doesn't really matter because most forumites already know what you folks look thanks to all the photos you post.

And speaking of photos, thank you for posting them and keep them coming! We really enjoy them and find them extremely educational.

What does foreigner mean? I am wondering if it is geographical or racial. Would Chineese, Burmeese, or Indian might be considered foreigners?

Uncle Bill sure looks tall in that picture.

Hmmmm. I wonder if they would let me in. I am short enough, but the weight and no language skills would tell on me.

I remember your telling us about this sometime ago Bro.
That has to be one of the highpoints in your journey through this world!

I should qualify that statement. The locals said specifically, "Queerie", and this refers to a caucasian. Remember the "Queerie Bandar" (white monkey)!

Bro, of interest to you is when Chokpa first saw you at the convention she took me aside and asked me if you were a Tibetan? You would have no problem at all getting into Manakamana.

Indians are welcomed since they are generally Hindu. Chinese and Burmese and others of the Mongoloid race would likewise be admitted unless they started asking questions.

A Tibeten hey? Now that's funny, but I can see why Chokpa would have asked that. I am probably the 1st NDN that she had ever seen.
Well some peope claim that we came over the ice bridge long ago, But I gotta believe my Elders and thier stories of how we came to be here.
I like the one about Atlantis best of all.
