I don't know how it happened. Well...I do, but it just sort of snuck up on me.

This morning, as I was getting dressed, I saw my Fiddleback Forge Bushboot. Normally carried 4-6 days a week, I hadn't belted it on in almost two weeks. Gotta wear that, I thought.

Heading over to where I keep my keys, I spied a new addition: a Case Sowbelly: my first big Case, first sowbelly, and first (traditional) stainless knife. We're still getting acquainted, so I had to slip that in my right rear pocket where it feels so right.

This made me remember I've actually got two other new additions (it's been a big month for knife acquisition, but not knife spending). I should get a group shot for the "New Acquisitions" thread. So the Schrade Walden small stockman went into my watch pocket, and the vintage Queen Peanut went into my right front pocket.

Since I was going to be bringing those two for a photoshoot during the day, I remembered I needed to bring my Schatt & Morgan Peanut that I really like but haven't bonded well with. That would make a great group pic for the Cult of the Peanut thread.

And then--without even thinking about it--my HJ7, my constant companion, dropped in my left front pocket with my keys, where it lives almost every single day.

......And that's how I found myself carrying six knives today.

No problem, I told myself. Extenuating circumstances, I said. So when I got home, I unloaded some of my blades, patted myself on the back and went about my evening... only then I noticed I WAS STILL CARRYING FOUR!!!

Not long ago, I laughed--nay! Guffawed!--at those of you carrying two or more knives. What has happened to me!?!?!

Or more interestingly, when did you first notice you were at the other end of a knife-related slippery slope?

Haha sounds like a typical day for me. A neck knife is on me 23/7 these days so much so that sometimes I forget it's there and end up reaching into my pocket for a blade instead. As long as you can carry the weight, no reason not to carry gear ;)

Michael, you might be interested in this thread: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1265925-Questions-for-those-of-you-who-carry-more-than-one-Traditional-knife-at-a-time

I think it explains what happened to some of us who carry N knives, where N > 1.

Thanks for the link, GT. My memory of that thread was that it was more focused on how multiple knives were carried. A quick reread revealed some "slippery slope" stories too, including your own. I'm glad to have reviewed it.

You're welcome, Michael. My philosophy is one should carry at least as many knives as one has pants pockets (and 2 knives per pocket is really not excessive)! :D:D

Nice selection for the day. I like that Fiddleback. Heck, I like 'em all.

It is a consequence of owning more than you need. Also an example of the paradox of choice - having too many choices can be worse than having too few, because as soon as you choose a single knife, you are simultaneously NOT choosing all of the others.

I share the problem, though not to that level. I only have three knives on me most days (plus a small multitool which includes a blade).

i really should put my large sunfish and Barlow back in my pocket ... left front is empty ... 6 plus a multi-tool isn't over the top ...

Lol its "on (you) 23/7," so during the one hour that you sleep with one eye open you take it off? lol [emoji1]

Funny enough, she and I had trouble bonding until I found the right sheath--a crossdraw by Rick Lowe. Somehow, the package made such perfect sense that I've felt underdressed without it the past 6 months or more.

He's got 1 too many. He should send me that sowbelly. :p :D

Lol. Thanks. I've had my eye on the pattern for a while, and I really liked the shield in this iteration. I think the sow belly and the stag peanut are going to be my summer carries this year, as both are stainless.
