Hey guys. As I'm sure some of you have seen me mention, I carry a SOG Recon Bowie everyday. I bought two of them, one to keep clean and nice for looking at and in case I finally snap the other one, and one to be used everyday and beat up.
It goes everywhere with me. Up until this past weekend, i have used it for regular activities, nothing too harsh. It's been used for cutting cord, food prep, opening mail, cutting various things around the house, opening boxes at work, cutting straps from crates, cutting and carving sticks and branchs, etc. Nothing really crazy.
This past weekend, i finally got to put it to the test. I took it with me camping on a 3 day hike and used it for everything. It was used for making kindling, chopping firewood, food prep, buliding a shelter (just wanted to build one), cleaning and prepping animals for cooking, everything. I really put it through the sh!t. This knife is one tough bast@rd. Three days worth of beating and abusing, no cleaning other than whiping it off before it went back in the sheath and light cleaning before using it for cooking. It definitely looked like I had beaten the crap out of it.
Yesterday, I got it home and cleaned it proper in the sink and whiped it all off and gave it a quick once over with a ceramic stick. Other than some light scratches and rubbing on the blade and a nick here and there in the brass guard, the knife was still in d@mn near perfect condition for a user. I was very impressed. Judging by what I saw, I have no doubt that this knife will stand up to many many more times of being beaten. A+ job by SOG on this knife. It is definitely not just a looker. This knife is an insane work horse. I would highly recomend people buy one for a good user they can depend on.
I had wanted to take pictures of the whole ordeal and fun from this weekend, but unfortunately I forgot to pack the camera. I remembered everything but the camera and spoons. So no pictures this trip. That reminds me. I had to use the knife to make spoons out of sticks too.
