Is anyone familiar with the Pallares Solsona knives? Last year I was in southern Spain, dropped into a knife shop and picked up one of their carbon blade and synthetic handle slipjoints for around US$5.

Neat design, leaf-shaped blade profile, definitely affordable.

They appear to have a website up now, any other info that would add my to my appreciation of this affordable, traditional knife?

I've seen some old Italian patterns that were similar. i wouldn't be surprised if this design goes back to Roman times. When Julius Caesar was a little kid, he kept one of these tucked inside his tunic! :D

they are very nice cutters there are 4 sizes, the bigger one is about 10 cms blade lenght.
they have no lock, but spring is strong so they are fairly safe and omfort to use.
They made other paterns and also chop and kitchen knives in carbon and stainless steel
