I have always peripherally wondered about the different spike versions for years. I can pick up the new or old line. What do you have and what is your opinion of it ? Thanks.

Absolutely get the newer models. The older ones were made of 420 and never held an edge.

For me, the older ones are very nice for collecting, but are risky for actual use. They do not hold an edge due to the sheath friction. They have little or no traction, and the thread wrap on the handle can get worn and loose. The newer ones have better handle traction, and are a little more practical for some EDC uses.

I have the old Scimitar spike and the new Bowie one. It's like comparing apples and oranges. The new sheath is better, the handle is better, the ergos are much more spot on, the steel holds its edge much better, and I find it easier to sharpen.

The newer ones are also better looking, IMO. Get one of the new models, I'd say the Tokyo or Bowie are the best and most versatile. They're just too inexpensive not to try one!

Thanks guys, appreciated. They may not cost much but I get tired of grabbing something online, then thinking ''what a piece of....'' later, and giving it away.
