Well, after reading all these threads about the spine whack test and seeing all of these great knives fail, i did a little testing of my own, and, every one of my slip joints failed. :)

LOL. They only make slip joints for folks who know how to use a knife that does not lock :D ;)

Hey, what the hecks going on here? After reading this very disturbing information I went and tested all my slipjoints and guess what? They all failed the spine whack test as well. I feel so violated!

Wow! That's for heads-up! I just tested by SAK Explorer, and that slipjoint failed! I had my hand in the way, of course, and now my index finger joint failed, which is to say im missing half of my finger...I knew i couldn't trust those damn Swiss!

should i be worried? all of my slip joints PASSED!!! in fact, one went clean thru the table i was testing on!

I read somewhere that this problem can be fixed with (you'll never believe this!) Liquid nails! Just apply to affected area....:D

Don't ever ask your wife to assist you in performing the spine whack test. She can pack a wallop and now I'm in bed with a bad back. Explain what it is beforehand.;) :D

Mine never fail, either -- I place the edge against the table, and whack the spine with a stick.

I have wonderful news!

Now I know you all love slipjoints, but obviously they're not reliable in this aspect.

Well anyways, I got my hands on a Becker fixed blade and it didn't show any signs of failure!

Hallejuliah!

Almost all of my fixed-blade knives passed my spine whack test.:D.

that's why slipjoints are useless. Send them to me! I will save you future aggravation..__joe

LOL! Thanks for the heads up. I just did my own test and all my fixed blades passed the spine whack tests too. :)

Megalobyte, I agree with you 100%. It's absolutely deplorable to think of all those poor souls like our fathers and grandfathers who actually carried and used slipjoints back in the old days. Imagine having to use a folding knife that wouldn't pass a spine whack test! What were they thinking? :D

I want to know which fixed blades failed!

(and they thought my thread was a waste of space.....)

It was. This is about knives, and it's humorous, not about avatars and prudish.

But on the subject of liner locks and the spine whack, that Pine Ridge G-10 folder I have wouldn't pass. It's got a whimpy liner that flexes more than Ahnold in a Terminator flick :D

How about a clip-whack test? You can't have a knife that could fall into your pocket when its clip fails! It could...get scratched on loose change, or other knives....
