Well, I'm getting closer to being finished, and good thing too as the contest ends in 10 days. It just needs a little more sanding...and me to figure out what kind of oil to finish it with so it could still be used and yet not go rancid. Other than the fire and sand paper it was made solely with Fiddleback cutlery :)

Correct! Mineral oil is the ticket for knives, handles, spoons, cutting boards

The mineral oil really brought out the grain and the color nearly matches the handle of the Bushfinger now. Pica tomorrow....err...later today I mean :o

..and John has a long mustache! Sorry, it's the first thing that came to my mind when I read the thread title, it's a Red Dawn thing! ;)

That really looks good!

Looking good!

Wish I had time to enter the contest, there are some great looking pieces in there. I set out to make a set of spoons out of redwood for my GF as a gift, but I've only completed the smallest one so far. I use mineral oil on mine too, and let them sit for a bit before using them.

That's funny guys...I guess I didn't put much thought into that huh? Yeah Red Dawn is one of my favs too.

Thanks Russell, I have worked on it 20 and 30 minutes at a time just whenever I had time.

This is it after drying from three coats of mineral oil. Not as purty as some in the contest thread but not too bad for a first finished spoon as opposed to spoon-like objects made in the field.
