There are certain knives in the Spyderco lineup that really need to be used to be appreciated. Actually I kind of feel that way about all of them, But the point is, I think that the Sprig, like it's big brother the Southfork, is best appreciated when being used, whether that be at the cleaning table or at the dinner table. I thought it would be cool to have a thread where everyone can post up their pics, videos and thoughts as they start to put their Sprigs through the paces.

I caught some small snapper today and gave mine its first little workout at the cleaning table. I am very pleased with the performance so far. It's a super nimble little knife with a very useful blade shape. The thin tip and thin edge make it great for the type of work I do. Please excuse the clumsy fillet work. I have gotten used to doing this with my 7.5" Punta Chivato fillet and it takes a minute to readjust to doing this with a stiff blade. One of the advantages of a fillet knife is the flex allows you to lift the handle so you don't get hung up on the fins like I did in a couple of spots. That said, the Sprig performs great and should make a great lightweight and compact "all arounder" for fishing and camping.

So get busy and post up some pics and vids guys! This little laser deserves some action shots!! :D

That's pretty awesome! I can't wait to get into some trout with mine, only a few weeks till fly fishing season starts in the sierras.

I did some fly fishing for the first time last year at some good spots in Utah. Fun stuff! :)

Gutted and gilled some small snapper on the kayak this morning.

The sprig sure looks like a handy blade. Ive been really impressed with s90v. Ive been putting off buying one, but I think it is getting time.

Very cool, vids! Very tasty looking fish.

I'm in the middle of our kitchen remodel so there's been very little opportunity to do anything with the Sprig.:o. I'll post something soon, cabinets come tomorrow.

I read gilled as grilled. I really wanted to see that in a kayak.

I read it the same way! I was waiting for a little hibachi grill to get pulled out of a side compartment, then felt dumb when I re-read the intro.

Beautiful knife though, Surfingringo. I bought one on Saturday and heated/reformed the sheath to give myself a thumb-lip to pull the blade out easier. Haven't used it for anything but apples yet, but I have carried it everyday and am trying to find excuses to cut things.

Yes, Spyderco should do that to all their kydex sheaths IMO. Makes it much easier and safer to draw the knife one handed in a controlled manner. Especially important in a confined space like the kayak.

The Sprig ain't not slouch scoring some Sheetrock. For anyone who might be cringing right now, it's ok. I'll wash it of before I use it for food prep...:D:D

I push off on the g-clip with my thumb, works good.

Yes, it is usually possible to find enough purchase to push off of but I sometimes carry mine without the clip and even when i do use the clip it's on the opposite side for IWB carry so its not really accessible for the thumb. I think a slightly flared lip should simply be standard issue on kydex sheaths.

p.s. Hurry up with that kitchen boy, the fish are biting! :D

Oh man, I can't wait for this to be over. I strongly dislike remodeling, especially while we have to live in the middle of it. When I wet a hook, I hear laughing noises come from the water, the fish don't fear me at all..
