the Spyderco that started it all for me

While in college I worked in a Western wear store doing retail sales. We had a few Spyderco knives in the case so I purchased one. I had never had a "good" knife and got a good discount so it was a no brainer. It was circa 1995-1996. I carried this knife full-time for at least 10yrs. I have carried it off & on for the last 10yrs.

I think it's a Caly Jr. but someone else will prob know better. It's AUS-8 with micarta handles and a full serrated blade. The blade is stamped with the PRCA logo (remember it was a Western wear store). I broke the tip off doing something it wasn't intended to do but the good folks at Spyderco ground it to a new point and replaced the original clip at the same time. That was prob 3-4yrs into it's time with me. It's pretty dull now because I have no skills sharpening a serrated blade but it's still an amazing knife.

This is the one that started my love of Spyderco knives. I was hooked and still am.

My Spydie experience started about three weeks ago with a Persistence. Fell in love and ordered, from some input from the guys, a Caly 3.5 VG10 G10. Now I was really in trouble. Looking at a military or pm2 for my next adventure, although I can't see anything ousting my Caly from my pocket. She is simply amazing!

I have the same Caly 3.5 and love it. Excellent size and blade shape combined with my favorite pocket clip option.

Another sergeant in my unit had a Tenacious and that thing was the coolest knife I ever saw...until I laid eyes on a Paramilitary2.

I just recently got back into knives, After a 35 break. I picked up a sage 2,and instantly fell in love with the feel of the knife. It's my first Spyderco, but I am sure it will not be my last.

Hi Volgrad,

Thanx for the memory trip. It's an original Calypso jr. The begining of what has become a family of models.

Hi Frank,

Welcome to our forum.

Missin PRCAs, Range Rover, 3.5s, Super blue, damascus, & Brown G10 FS, possibly others????

I've never been a fan of Liner Locks. Come to think of it I never was a fan och back locks either. Then arrived a Lum Chinese, and then arrived a Delica and then a Sage1. Now I'm sold on both lock types, Spyderco ergonomics really are the best.

My first Spyderco was Native II C42 which I purchased in Karlsruhe, Germany in 2000. I still have it all scratched up. Made in Seki City, Japan with Stainless Steel handles and AUS-10 blade steel.

I was seduced by the Manix2 in 2010 and that's when I began to drift away from another certain brand (which are so overpriced these days anyway) and I became an instant Spyderco fan.

My 1st was a PM2 about 3 years ago after A TON of research. I still carry it a lot and it started my love affair for Spyderco. Since then I've owned many and I can't see myself stopping now.
