Im sure many of you here love the spyderedge and i am among you. but one thing irks me. the other day i was carving a tip on a stick to make a spear type point. i was using a plain edge fullflat ground endura then lookd at my serrated endura longingly and said you can do anything but carve. for when you go to slice away a chunk of wood the serrations leave a groove in the wood and was just overall not as effective.

that is untill i flipped the edge around. i was holding it in my right hand edge out against the wood, then i held the blade facing inward and it sliced through the wood as if it was jello.

Most ppl are right handed correct? so why doesnt spyderco make their serrations for right handed ppl. surely it wouldnt be too hard to put them on the otherside and i think ppl without serration exp will find that serrations can do everything a plainedge can do (barring chopping iv found which is caused by the points). most ppl are right handed like myself and if some1 who doesnt use serrations and went to use them with the serrations made for righthandd use it would be a revelation for them like i knw it was for me.

you cant make everyone happy but since most ppl are right handed it would make sense to favor them, and sell more knives. not hating on lefties but 90% vs 10% (idk if that is correct) it is clear if you could only please one of them which to choose.

the lefties will still have a very useable product as we righties have for years, but putting the serrations on the otherside would make me happy and even if they dont knw it a lot of other ppl too.

i understand serrations dont sell well and i think this might be a reason why.

what do you guys think?

I've asked Sal about it. The way they are ground is one part aesthetics and two parts safety. The chisel grind of serrations make them tend to curve in a cut. Grinding them on the left side of the blade make it tend to arc to the right, i.e. away from a right-handed person's body if they are cutting away from themselves the way we were taught in Cub Scouts forty-some years ago. On the serrated left-hand models like the Police, the serrations are ground on the right side.

Hey "Slight" one thing you might want to keep in mind in your quest for future Spyders is that Spyderco did made a few "left handed" serrated models. I used to have a left handed, fully serrated Police model which I now wish I had kept. Maybe that would be a remedy for what you've recently found inadequate.

I am a huge fan of Spyderco's Spyderedge Serrations because when they are sharp you can do some pretty amazing things with them. I would never go back-packing or on any kind of a "survival quest" without taking at least two Spyderedged blades with me. I'm that sold on them. I also wish that they had more Spyderedged fixed blades. I was lucky enough to land 2 of the original Temperance 1 model SE versions and they are like Gold to me. I just can't understand why the Temperance 2 isn't available in SE at least on a "special order" basis if nothing else.

I didn't fully appreciate the Spyderedged Spyders until I did a lot of jobs with them just to see how they would perform. The one time when I really got sold on Spyderco's Spyderedges is when we field dressed a Snapping Turtle about 3 years ago. No one else had a clue as to how to dress that turtle until I got my full SE Temperance 1 to do the job.
