I got my Starmate, but i want something smaller to carry daily. Starmate is a little too big for that, in my opinion. What do you think of the Standard?

Dan, Definitely get one. The Standard is a really nice under three inch design. You better move fast because it is being discontinued. Personally, I that that is aa shame.

Just to look at the Standard it appears very similar to the Delica other than G-10 liners how does it differ?

The Standard G 10 is a bit shorter in OAL and uses a thicker blade. A plus IMO. Get one before they' re gone.

Funny you should bring it up; I got a G10 Harpy recently, and started thinking, "gee, it'd be cool if there was a non-curved version of this, too." Then I remembered the Standard. Just may have to get me one of them.

Sigh, still yet even more Spydercos...

Why is the thicker blade of the Standard a plus over the thinner blade of Delica? Just wondering. I seem to be gravitating toward liking thinner blades.

Beam, some are under the presumption that all knives with a thinner blade cuts/ slices better than a thicker blade. This is true only if the grind and edge are thinner such as that results from a (high) hollow or a flat grind. The Standard has a nice hollow grind and a thin enough edge that will allow it to slice with similar knives in its category. This thicker blade = a thicker spine, which some prefer if some hasty prying and digging or some other abuse is needed. Also there are some who prefer their knives' balance to be a bit foward. It provides a better feeling of where the point is oriented. But that would be a whole different discussion altogether. Hope this helps a bit.

Carl,

I'm with you

. My new G10 Harpy is lonely and I'm thinking the Standard would keep it company very nicely. The handle of the Standard appears very similar to the Harpy but can anyone tell me if it has the same single stainless liner?

Thanx Nakano, BTW, that G10 standard in ATS-55 is a honey and it is scheduled to be discontinued. If you have any interest in the model, I would get one sooner than later. We don't plan to make any more.

As best I recall, the G-10 Standard and Harpy both have the single stainless liner, identical handles except perhaps the spacer. Makes for a pleasantly beefy little knife, too

My one gripe with the pair is that the clip cuts rather badly across the edge of the handle, interfering with grip. I think it was moved slightly from the steel models to accomodate the pivot screw instead of a pin.

The G-10 Police has the same type of construction as the standard and the G-10 Harpy. The big plus for the Police is the flat ground blade. The G-10 Police is my favorite Spyderco, I prefer it over my Military and Starmate.

Thanks for responding to my question. The standard has a clip, right? If so, tip up/down, and how is it attached?

Dan,

I believe it's tip down. The clip screws are threaded into the stainless liner.
