This is a long way from having a blade but I thought I'd post the start of it anyway. I'll post the end product when it's finished,

The first thing to do is decide what it's going to be. In this case, a cutlass with an in line hammer. I made the hammer and trigger early this morning.

The shape has to be blocky and way oversize because the first priority is to make it go bang. The recesses are inletted and I will mark the center of the hammer before removing anymore wood.

The first picture is the plank it was cut from.
The second is the roughed out and inletted pistol.

so its gunna be a combo of a cutlass and a pistol? cool ive seen flintlock dueling pistols with a bowie blade on the bottom of the barrel but never a cutlass pistol. sounds cool peter. be sure to post tons of pics, i wanna see this when its done!

Classic Arms used to (maybe still do) make kits for the Elgin. This one is a Fantasy gun. It was a slow day today and I have a lot of nervous energy. I wanted to build this one using the hammer trigger assembly. I have a swivel breech about half way done that's waiting for this system.

This is more of a get used to the parts gun than anything else. It should be interesting to build though.

It will have a skull crusher ball on the butt end and a cutlass on th front. The trigger is adjustable although I have no idea why I did it. Not like it's going to be a target pistol.

I'll check my barrels to see what will go. Either a thin walled 45 or 51.

Hey Pete it sorta reminds me of those rubber band guns we had when we were kids :D . Love those antique weapons cant wait to see the finished product :)
