The start of my Becker journey

Hello all,

I’ve been a member of BF for a few years. I (like most of us, I imagine) started by lurking around and reading as much of the info around here as possible. The next step is to actually participate, mostly by asking questions at first, but eventually (if you’re doing it right) we end up actually posting our experiences or projects, and those in turn, help others and hopefully add to the common knowledge base of the forum.

I first participated mostly in the Buck sub-forum, then around last summer got interested in Becker knives after discovering them while researching modified machetes (a story for another time) and spent some time around here mostly reading, but also participating in a few threads. I’ve always been a bit of a tinkerer, and those are the threads that draw my attention most of the time.

In a short time (and I’m sure as a result of spending time with you lot) I decided I wanted a Becker and went on a Becker mini shopping spree last summer and before I knew it I found myself the owner of six Beckers in a matter of three months.

At first I could not make up my mind between the 2 or the 7, but around the middle of August I saw an ad in the exchange for one of each, so I contacted the seller and got them both.

About a week after that another member here posted a modded BK2 so I emailed him and came away with this guy.

In early September got this well used 14 for a song.

Two weeks later it was an almost new 16.

In October another lighter used 14.

I’m not sure what my next Becker will be, but for now I’ll entertain myself with modding a couple of these and see what happens after that.

With the exception of those of the 14s, the above are the seller’s pics. I'm not sure if that matters, but thought it was worth mentioning.

I haven’t had a chance to take a group picture, but I will.

Thanks for having me.

Awesome! Your next Becker should be the BK9 since you didn't say you had a chopper. And as everyone says, you can't not have a BK9. 😉

I'm struggling with that whole "you can't not have a BK9" thing. My chopper is an old Ontario 18" machete that I'm modifying to accept Becker grips.

Man, the Becker necker is the most underrated knife in the set!!!! I mean, that joker had a bottle opener. Plus it's a great EDC size

Agreed. I was just showing the modded 14 to a friend at work and he said he'd like to get one to have on his bike while riding, but I told him to look into the 11, as it seems more versatile for his purpose.

The necker is the BK11. The 24 is basically the same as the 14, just in D2 steel.

Indeed, all 3 share the same blade ...
11 - 3.25" with 'bottle opener' handle
14 - same blade with longer 'ESEE' handle
24 - same as 14 but in D2 and uncoated

Nice post Cuad! I appreciate that you took the time to present yourself and your story as it is common for most of us following a similar path. Not sure if you ever checked this post out but in it I found I really wasn't alone...

I'm sorta at the same point as well. I've acquired at least one a month since December and it actually averages more than one but I can't math it ATM :D. It's purty outside and I've had a few.
Anyway I was doing good this month until I was presented with an offer I couldn't refuse and ended up with the BK12.
Now reading your post after drinking a few beers(which I haven't done in a good while) I find myself once again longing for the 11. I absolutely can't live without the 14 but my wandering eye always falls upon the 11. I must hold out until May. Until then, I'm like you, taking time to mod and play with what I have. I have 2,4,5,9,12,14, 3x15, and a 16. I know the 11 and 17 are next on my list but after that, I'm not sure i need any others. My daughter bought herself a remora and I don't really find I can use it so much. I never really cared for the 10 so much until I saw nostayhome's. any addition at this point will be "collecting" and I'm more of a user kinda guy. In June I have Father's Day, 20th wedding anniversary, and birthday all within a 10 day period so I feel another binge coming! Thanks for the post and thanks for letting me vent!

20th Anniversary - China and Platinum are the modern and traditional gifts for that year, but I just couldn't make it out how your SO would have to get a you a new Becker. I don't think they make platinum handles. Platinum hardware maybe?

Haha, perfect! Neither of us could give a $h!+ about china or platinum!

Hey Cuad.....

Welcome..... Glad you are here and look forward to sharing your journey.....
