The state of the sub-forum

I just wanted to make a thread to discuss the state of this sub-forum. There are several things which go on in the Emerson forum that you don't see happen in any other manufactures forum on BF, let alone other forums like this.

Threads that are about someone trying to get their knife fixed but EKI won't respond for some reason. I feel in most, but not all of the cases where such a thread was made that it could of better been handled by trying to contact EKI in another way (phone, PM Ernie on BF, tried to contact them through the site with a different email). This is something you only see a lot of in this forum, and I don't think it has anything to do with EKI providing bad customer service, but rather individuals thinking making said post here is an appropriate route to take. I understand under certain circumstances perhaps this is necessary but primarily I think its bad for the forum and the individuals involved for several reasons. For the individual it first and foremost draws their business into the public spot light, which to me is already enough. It can also make a person become villainized in the eyes of many and its essentially asking the forum members to step up and become a customer service representative and help said individual navigate his way through the process. Which more often than not would of resolved its self had it been given more time. Lastly these kinds of threads are a light bulb shining in tonight to the Emerson bashing moths that love to troll this forum, which brings me to my second issue....

Blatant trolling. No other sub-forum, I say again no other sub-forum has the level of blatant trolling the Emerson sub-forum does. Try making a silly unfounded post like you see here about another manufactures knives on their sub-forum and see what happens. On this forum trolls frequently make post that are nothing short of exaggerated, or unfounded lies entirely and hardly anyone calls them out on it. In some cases this has allowed misinformation to be passed off as truth to people, something I find horrid where ever I see it. I understand that one of the things this forum is supposed to provide is an area for ideas and opinions to be expressed, and believe me I'm for that. At the end of the day though when you read a post that says something along the lines of "I cut a marshmallow with my Emerson knife and the blade broke" or "I was carrying my knife in my back pocket when I farted and the handle melted" you get sick of it. My examples here were clearly meet to be humorous, but my point is that such post need to be acknowledged as trolling. If someone says they broke their blade on a marshmallow lets see some proof, because I'm tired of reading that garbage and it takes away from the fun of the sub-forum.

So how can we solve this? I'd like to hear your ideas and opinions. Maybe I'm the only one who feels like this about these issues, let's hear it.

Last thing, I tried to word this in away to not offend anyone, if your offended by this give me a chance before passing judgement. Unless of course your a troll than I don't care.

I agree people should exhaust their routes before airing matters publicly. However, the role of a forum is to discuss things and as Emerson enthusiasts (well, most of us here), we should acknowledge that this will occur no matter what. Plus, I am in the camp of not telling people what to do. I can offer advice and advise as seen fit, but I'm not going to tell anyone what to do. Just let the chips fall where they may.

This leads into the next matter. Trolling. The more infamous thread that called in the Emerson haters...well. I've had some long discussions about it with a few of the other members who are regulars here. It's pretty well known that there is not an official Emerson moderator here, but interestingly enough, we self moderate extremely well compared to other forums cough KAI. I propose we continue to do what we do best and self moderate. Be helpful, courteous, drown out the trolls (MMF comes springs to mind). We are one of the most civil forums here, the only other one that I can think of that is pretty dang laid back is the Traditional forum. When in doubt, just use the ignore option. It helps out so much more.

Truth be told, this is the only forum I have a subscription on BFC, I get updates to my phone through tapatalk. I enjoy this place that much.

Emerson is supposed to be working on appointing a moderator for this subforum, AFAIK, to act as an interface for customers and control any trolling.
It will be up to it's appointed moderators to keep the forum healthy, clean, organized and operating within this sites guidelines.
Also AFAIK, Bladeforums does not provide unmoderated "fan forums" for manufacturers.
If a moderator is not appointed to this forum, then at some point this forum will be removed and archived.
Anyone wishing to keep this forum here should contact Emerson knives and ask that they remedy this problem as soon as possible.

I agree with the OP that the silly trolling is getting to be nonsense but I also understand that rules are rules and to be honest, I would rather this forum shut down then see it denigrate into pointless, off topic pissing matches.

I also see this happening in another popular manufacturer's forum where little to no moderation has led to constant bashing and trolling (map pricing anyone) has led to few of the regulars to quite posting.
It's embarrassing for all involved.

Myself and a few others have contacted Ernie in the past but once again it appears as if the ball's in his court.

IMHO Trolls are pert of the internet, if people do not feed into their moaning, and groaning. The trolls will, and do go else where, because they are ignored. If they complain post the EKI contacting information, and suggest they contact Emerson with their problem if you suspect a Troll.

Just my two cents on Trolls.

As long as the internet provides anonymity to a certain level, trolling will always be present to certain extent. Moderator or not, the best option is to ignore trolls and they just go away. I am new here, but have seen many other parts of bf, and trolling exists everywhere. A moderator does help control it to certain extent, but it is largely our job as responsible citizens of this sub forum to refuse feeding the trolls.
