A few months ago, I saw the launch of a new recurve knife supposedly designed by Steven Segal.

While I had no use for the knife, I expected to seen write-ups in magazines and chatter on the forums.

To date, I have seen nothing.

Was this a flash in the pan, was the knife ever released or was it never as popular (or as useful) as designers thought? I just found it odd. I use the same gunsmith as Mr. Segal uses, and those products are durable and very functional.

I had a chance to handle one at a gun/knife show over the weekend. It is a nice knife. I like the shape of the blade, and the fact that they chose not to put the speedsafe in the knife. The Stingray leather gives it a good grip, and the knife feels good in the hand. And the steel is AUS-8, which I like better than the AUS-6 which Kershaw has on a number of other Onion collaborations.

Now I just need to save some pennies and buy one myself.

I handled one too (the serrated model) and I liked it. I have a plain edge on hold I will probably pick up on Saturday. Very smooth opening. I also liked the Rayskin inserts. Makes me think of one of my favorite lines:

"Well?"
"One though he was invincible, the other though he could fly."
"So?"
"They were both wrong."

-Steven Seagal

its nice.
very smooth, and very easy to open. they ray skin inserts arent something you see on production knives, which makes it all the better.

when they become more available i may pick one up.

It is very well made and comfortable to hold. It doesn’t have Speed Safe opening assist, so it is true manual opener but really very smooth. Liner lock, the lockup is OK.
Its story looks quite funny for me. Talking with Douglas Flag at KERSHAW booth at IWA’2003 Trade Show (March, Nuremberg, Germany) I have asked him why this knife looks so similar to Ken Onion ones? Because Ken has helped Steven a bit in this design – Doug said. How much “a bit?” – I have asked maliciously – maybe Steven signed the blade and Ken has done the rest? Maybe – Doug smiled.

Hmmm. You guys all know about the knife. In my neck of the woods, I have never seen one, seen one owned by a friend, or run into one for sale at a knife show. (We have no B&M stores here within easy driving distance.)

You guys must all seem to think it's a good knife because you've either ordered one or are saving for one. Laying out cash for a product is the best endosement.

I try to stay up on the knife rags (although I'm more of a page flipper) and I do remember the launch. To my knowledge, a formal article has never come out. If one has, or is scheduled, please give me some info. Thanks.
