The stock Ontario Ranger RD7 sheath, and it's faults.

This is really more of an advice seeking thread, rather than a criticizing one. I just wondered if anybody else has had this same issue. I recently ordered the above mentioned knife, and was thrilled when I received it because the blade looked just perfect for my needs and was sharp as a razor. But man, the sheath...It is so loose than when the knife is in place, it rattles back and forth quite a bit, and when you maneuver down, the blade nearly entirely leaves the sheath.

I hope that wasn't too much a rant, but was hoping someone else had dealt with this and how they fixed the issue? Is there another sheath out there that this blade fits nicely into? I have a custom kydex sheath on reservation, but need something until then (a plus would be molle friendly)

Ontarios ranger knife sheaths are notorious for being junk- mainly the liner but you know what I mean

I just got a ranger RD7 Bush, and the sheath is total crap. I really like the knife, but I need a better sheath option. Anybody have a suggestion that doesn't involve mailing my new knife off somewhere before I even get to beat on it?

OK, this is an easy fix. If you look inside the sheath you will see a clear liner. I think they used hot glue to keep it in but you can pull it out with plyers. Heat it up with a hair dryer and press it down and let it cool untill you like the way the blade fits .I started a few inches down so the tip of the blade would slide in easy before it grabbed. It may take a few times to get the retention you like. Then slide it back in. I used hot glue on some and silicone on others just around the end to keep the blade from wanting to slide beside the insert. It sounds like a pain but it really only takes a few minutes and makes the sheath a whole lot usable. Also if you think the handle feels kind of blocky, you can sand the square edges down a bit to fit your hand for a personal fit. Good luck
