The stonewashed finish?

I have an Insingo (small micarta inlay), I've enjoyed it for the past few months. This may be the best CRK I've ever had.:) What a remarkable blade!
In observing the finish on the blade, in some light it looks like a satin, in other light like fine stonewash. Now it's a very pleasing blade, but can't help remembering my old Large Regulars finish, which was more aggressive looking compared to the Insingo's(sort of industrial looking). The Large Regular Sebenza was my first stonewashed blade and looked great.

When did CRK start finishing blades this way?

Hey brother. . . I have noticed on an older S30V Seb 21 I have that the stonewash is much more aggressive than on my current S35VN Seb. Not sure when the changes in stonewashing were made though, but I prefer the older more aggressive finish.

All of my classics have an darker more aggressive looking stonewash as well, all my new 21s seem to have a much lighter, less aggressive wash, making them look a bit more shiny.

some of mine are shiny some are more matte, I assume they're not equal (wanted or not)
so it must be normal

Current bead-blasting feel and texture seems rougher than on the older models as well. Things change I guess. I've noticed as well. Go figure.

I think it has to do with the steel. I believe its because S35vn polishes up easier.

Just my 2 pennies... :)

My favorite finish that CRK knives ever had is the nice stonewashed finish on my 1998 Sebenza. As you mentioned, the more recent finishes are lighter and less aggressive. I am not sure when they made the change.

They both look good in their own right, just wondering.

S35VN finishes easier? That just might do it.

well I have similar finish on the plain ones, 30v or 35vn, shinier on the inlayed ones, maybe a premium feature?

It's not the S35VN i think, i remember seeing in a video they changed their stonewash process, different stones or somthing. Maybe within the last year and a half or so. The early S35VN knives were still coming with the rougher finish, then later of course what you see now, so i don't think it's the steel as much as the process they now use.

The "new" finish is also on the Zan and 25 it appears. These knives are more a "tactual" type knife so I'm wondering. With that fine finish, how do they look after hard use? Scratches?
I've got a scratch on mine, and I don't use it hard.
