I picked up a couple books at the library's sale case last night. One of them was called The Strain, coauthored by Guillermo del Toro, the director, and Chuck Hogan. I'm about halfway through, but you can definitely see the Mike Mignola style of storytelling influence. Vampires in New York.
I have never been a big fan of the traditional vampire novel, the "poor, depressed, Gothic vampire" type stories. I prefer novels like Stephen King's Salem's Lot etc. That depict vampires as leeches, basically ravenous animals, that a party of hunters set out to destroy.
Anyone else read this? The back cover states that this is the first in a trilogy. Wouldn't be surprised to see a movie come out of this. Interesting turn on the regular take of how the vampires get the blood, too.
