Hello forum,
The strangest thing I have noticed since I introduced khukuri's into my life is that my dog, a small terrier, normally quite assertive - if not aggressive - takes a long walk to a dark place and stays there when when the Nepalise steel slips out of it's scabbard.
In the past I have noticed that she will pick up when I am angry and go away from me, or when she has been 'bad'.
When the khurkuri is drawn she just vanishes. I have never drawn it in anger (God! I wish I lived in America!), and have never been experiencing angry feelings when I've had the unsheathed blade in my hand. Yet the dog runs for cover! Does any other forumite have an opinion or similar experience?

Yep, my dog, a huge akita, hides somewhere remote whenever I pull out a weapon in general. Oddly enough, she doesnt react this way when I'm angry.

Hi James,
I never tried to *formally* train little Pippin (or choose her name!). She is a much loved member of our family, and very well behaved. She is, as I said a terrier, and, as such, a fearless guard dog, also a keen independent hunter. I had her from being a puppy. She has never needed to be disciplined execept by voice. I know I am her "pack leader".
Do we touch the primitive when we handle a weapon? Does it rouse something in our minds and bodies? She certainly feels something and demonstrates her response fluentely.

Uncle Bill: Yes, a khurkuri seems to have a life and a voice... It's not an HI, but it's a fine blade. I took it into work and let my friends there look and handle it. One of them became very odd, just holding it with a funny smile on his face... I took the knife away, and he was grateful. He said that he would have killed us all, and he not only felt the power of the blade, he had a voice talking to him. He's a drummer though, so I guess that's only to be expected.

There's that Japanese legend about the Muramasa; the cursed blade, for which the wielder becomes possessed by bloodlust either immediately or gradually. Might be referring to this...

I have a very old 'Hawk head that affects some people that way.
What was left of the old handle was proof that the handle was "burned" out of it.
I have had it long enough that it doesn't make me cry with sadness any more, although that presence will always be with it. Now it seems happy to be among traditional people once again. It will be passed on forever with the people now, however "long" that is.

My Akita is the opposite. If I want to practice, I have to lock her up, or she will glue herself to my side and keep looking around as if to say "OK, lets get 'em! I'm with you! Where are they?" I swear the dog GRINS when she gets in those moods. First Akita I have ever been around, the animal is so people smart it gets spooky.

Ah yes, the old double post trick! (Actual comments edited for our younger members benefit)
