Who, what,When where, why?I really enjoy the sub-forum. I just can't wrap my head around the philosophy of the forum closing.I enjoy KAI product and have learned a great wealth of knowledge on that particular sub-forum.Thanks to everyone for educating me.I guess I look forward to continuing my education in the General knife area here on Bladeforums..
Best regards,

Not much drama, at that. Some people just aren't cut out to be a public face for their organization.

It is not an easy position to be in, and can get tiring. It doesn't take many self-appointed negative presences to take the joy out of moderating.

Exactly, some people aren't a good fit for the position. That's not a slight on them, I sure couldn't do it.

To be fair, moderating is a tough job. Not everyone can do it and kudos are due to those who do it and do it well.

Unfortunately, NeverMore1701 hit the nail on the head in this case. I did not post in that sub-forum because of the way it was run. Indeed, not everyone can be a positive face for their organization and not everyone can moderate.

Esav, I'll bet you'll agree that negative presences can be, and often are, exacerbated by the way a forum is moderated. Consistent, and fair, moderation is essential to a well run and enjoyable forum. That was missing from that forum - IMHO.

I feel bad for those folks that enjoyed the sub-forum. But this outcome was predictable.

Since joining BladeForums on March 2, 2013 about 59% of my posts had been in the Kershaw Knives / Zero Tolerance subforum.

They'll be missed but I can see how at times it can be regarded as a thankless chore. Not easy to take the subjective & objective criticisms when you're so passionate about the company you work for.

I agree with this. I didn't post there much (in fact, I don't post much in general) but in the many times I lurked and poked around the threads the mod(s) did seem awful quick to shut down any thread showing criticism, constructive or otherwise. It always struck me as odd. That's just an outsiders perspective though.

+1  Hopefully this will yield a phoenix moment for KAI. Next time they give the subforum a try, I hope it will be run in a more universally agreeable manner. Being a moderator is surely a difficult position, but perhaps next time it will be wise to appoint someone more suited for the rigors of it.

I really appreciated jimmer_5's posts and found them to be very informative, intelligent, and insightful. He seemed to address concerns in a positive, respectful, honest, and professional manner from my point of view.

Agree with all of this.

I was excited when it first opened, but the addition of more and more rules and more and more mod interaction cast a shadow over the whole thing (for me).

I don't really see the point in closing it over simply changing what their mods were responsible for doing. The other manufacturer forums do fine without subforum-specific rules and function on next to no subforum moderator interaction--e.g., Spyderco and Benchmade's. Plus, closing the forum won't prevent negative Kai threads; it simply pushes them to a forum with a larger viewership (this one, General Knife Discussion).

If folks feel they are going to leave because of that, then that is their prerogative. The fact remains that there is still a very large and well populated forum to be had. Yes the KAI section will be missed (for the second time), but it's not like their products will not be discussed or will be forbidden from discussion. Get a grip people, this forum is what you make of it. ;)

Kai has outstanding products and will continue to be discussed in other areas of Bladeforums.Life goes on and so does my desires for their products. No big deal it's the same program you love that is being moved to a new channel.Onward we go and let's blaze a new and improved trail....Ride the wave and enjoy the ride!Life is too short.....

That's exactly how its gets sometimes. This week I had a couple of instances where people contacted me to whine and whine and whine, not a clue that they got dinged for terminal stupidity, no choice of mine. I just have to shut down the computer and go for a walk.

Fortunately, that's just one aspect of moderating. Answering questions, moving threads, suggesting solutions, all take up more time and leave me feeling that Bladeforums is more than worth the time I spend here. I just wish I could participate more in knife discussions! :p
