Good start Armand! Needed a second Buck 102, got an email from Copper & Clad on some red handled Woodsman they offered. This one came yesterday; bird & game style so I posed it with a couple of bird & game getting tools. The red is deeper than it looked on their website, but I like it. OH
Ps. Happy Thanksgiving this week gents!

Thank you, that one is the red phenolic - looks a bit like Micarta though. I want a red Micarta, but decided to hold out, hoping for a Buck 118 with the upgraded steel and Micarta handles. OH
Ps the Buck cutler got the edge on this one just perfect - very professional work, looking like a custom knife.

View attachment 1022473 View attachment 1022474 View attachment 1022475 When cutting with a folding knife, all of the force in the pivot is radial to the pin, and there is no tendency to spread the frame. If the knife is used for scraping, prying, or reaming, some potential frame spreading forces are applied. Tools that are added to basic knives can also exert unwanted lateral forces. Screw drivers, awls, corkscrews, etc. come to mind.
Knives with such tools often have headed pins (rivets) holding them together. Knives with thin or soft (plastic or Aluminum) bolsters also use this construction. Notice on the SAK the the rivet head also retains a collar for the handle slab to snap onto.
Pinned and riveted knives do not lend themselves to tasks such as cleaning and adjusting pivots. Neither do they allow for the replacing or swapping of blades. So I like option #3.

I should add that the new 110 Aluminum pinned knives do not require headed pins. The older Aluminum 111 was made with soft Aluminum to aid in the embossing process and needed the rivet option.

The Green Canvas Micarta Drop Point 110 is a recent addition. This is my first 110, I know, late to the game. Pictures are with my phone, I still need to get some with my DSLR camera. The Elk Clip Blade 110 is on order from the Custom Knife Shop as I type :).
