Good morning ITE! Beautiful 110! Nice color on that one!

Heres my newest knife, thanks str8shtr ;) I am really happy with the sheath on this one. I was afraid that it would come with the plain jane nighthawk type sheath. This one is well worth the upgrade with multiple carry options, and seems to be quality built.

Well, off to work! Have a great day gentlemen! I look forward to some great pictures tonight!!!!!!!!!!

Love the white handled 110! The Tops fixed blade looks like it could be a good friend to have along on a camp! Here is another old 110 2 dot. The 2 dots are special to me, because I started out toting bucks in 1976 when I worked in a local cotton mill at the age of 16. I can't recall what ever happened to my first 110, But In the past couple of years , I have been snagging the 2 dots and keeping them all over the house and in my truck so I will always have one near by if I need a sturdy knife with a good blade!
I just ordered a Custom shop 110 from buck with NS Bolsters and Walnut scales with rivets, but it will be a few weeks before I get it.

Bulletproof glass 110s, distinguished from the Buck salesman samples with 'LR" stamped onto the lockbar:

Thought that I would add a unique blade to this custom 110 Selector. Armed with only a hacksaw, file, and emery; took a DEEP breath, and had at it with a very nice (and expensive) Damascus blade. Using mounting details from the factory Selector blades as a guide, turned out pretty good (IMHO).

Buck Whittler - Model 310 A Interesting History.

For todays seminar we tackle the 310 Whittler. The 310 was created to fill the desire of the whittler's out there for a nice sized coping blade. Basically the 309 model just was given an additional spring and coping blade. This coping blade is larger than a similar blade found on the model 305. 310s started out with all SS springs, liners and 420HC blades.
The first 310's are considered to be SMKW's exclusives and were offered by them as early as 1994. They continued in SMKWs catalogs to 1996.
310SMKWCatalog-1.jpg

The 310 below is one of the last of the flat ground blade era and is stamped with a \ on the tang, making it a "first" year offered 1994. Also notice the small nail nice on the secondary blade.

However, in 1998 Buck also started showing them in catalog and carried it thru 2000. I have no copy of a Bass Pro Shop catalog that shows the 310 in there 2001 catalog but they were soon the exclusive seller of this knife.
It continues to be offered in the current BPS catalog and website with slight changes from the past. 310 stamped blades on the BPS offered knives were used up quickly and for a number of years 309 stamped tangs will be found in a 310 Whittler BP catalog listing. The three springs and three blades still are found in the knifes assembly.

One of Bass Pro additions is the sliding top wooden box the knife comes in. This is a box like a few other Buck models have been offered with from time to time. This knife is stamped 309 T (2003) and a regular two blade 309 is also shown for size comparison.

One special 310 was made in 1997/98 era, a Brown Jigged bone was offered as part of a SMKWs Limited Edition series. These will be found with dark brown scales and a inset of a Limited Edition medallion in place of the escutcheon plate shield.

The 310 Whittler makes a nice little brother to my favorite the 303 Cadet. It might be found ideal for someone as a 'slacks' or 'Sunday' knife. Several folks actively collect this model, I am not one of the 'actives'. I pick one up now and then on the 'cheap'.

Great knives as always, Sirs.

Here's my modest contribution to the SPS.: I found the knife
in the German beach for roundabout 20 USD. And the sheath
I got from Gordon - many thanks once more!!

Best,
Haebbie

Great knife photos guys! 300, good write up and information. RLF, super job. Who heat treated your Damascus blade? Thats a good project. I've made several blades for Selectors only I don't have a frame like that. The drop point blade you show cuts real nice. E, are those the cow bone 110's? Haebbie, that looks to have a brass spacer. A good early 110. DM

Yep Armand & DM,
You are correct, someone......I have no idea who took a selector blade and turned it into a fixed blade. It looks sweet and is nice work, but, I would not use this for anything other than a decrotive piece. I don't think it would hold up to any hard use as there is just not enough metal in the handle. It is well made and heavy for a little show knife. I also thought it fit in with the fantasic custom selector that RLF posted and that DM blade he customized is way cool.
Here is the other side with nail nick;)

Thanks, David, for the kind words and encouragement (as usual). Damascus blade from SnakeRiver Knives. Frame is one of Joe's one-of-a-kind custom projects.

Seaplane, You like the 2 dots and getting a Buck custom 110--lucky you. That is an interesting coffee cup used as a prop in your photo. My wife thinks its carved out of wood.? DM

David, Your wife is right! It's a Birch wood Kuksa from the arctic circle. Hand carved . I drink my coffee and water from it every day. These cups have been handed down for generations thru families, But I got mine from cloudberry a couple of years back. I don't have to worry about dropping it and breaking it!
I am out of pics of my buck knives to share that I haven't allready posted, But I did score another 2 dot today and a 112 both together on that auction site.
Now that I am a member of the BCCI, I am waiting to hear from Mr. Foresman on one of the elk handled 111's.He thinks there might be one left! I am also hoping to find out more about the green canvas micarta 112 that was available to club members or a special project knife, Not sure which, But I love Micarta handled Bucks! I also don't know what the annual knife is for this year. Has it been announced yet?
I've enjoyed this weekend's SPS and I have been going over those old News Letters on the collector's site! Saw an article or two by You DM! You are a good story teller! I did not realize what I was missing out on. Thanks for the cool pics and sharing guys!

Seaplane, Thank you for the kind words of encouragement. The 'Club Knife' has not been announced for this year. The 111 you mention was the Club Knife for 2007? A beauty! If you can get one of those Heritage Series knives-- do it as the canvas micarta feels great and they have S30V blades. For a picture of the entire set look in lasts years June Newsletter they are handsome. I'm glad your on the bus, now enjoy the ride.
Whose Cloudberry? I like the cup-- that cost me 5$. DM
