Hello and welcome to the Sunday Picture Show. Share your Buck knives with others by posting pictures of them here. New or old, plain or custom, user or safe queen, one or a collection, we love to see them all. This weekly tradition was started in 2010 by ItsTooEarly (Armand Hernandez) and Oregon (Steve Dunn). Help keep the tradition alive. Feel free to click that 'LIKE' but lets not let it replace discussing and complimenting each others knives. Above all, enjoy the show. DeSotoSky (Roger Yost)

On This Day, December 28th, 1835, The Dade Massacre
Ambush where approximately 180 Seminole warriors wiped out nearly all of a 107-man U.S. Army column in central Florida, a one-sided battle with only 3 Seminole killed and 5 wounded. This was the inciting incident for the Second Seminole War, America's longest and costliest Indian conflict. The Seminole wars were a series of three military conflicts between the United States and the Seminoles that took place in Florida between about 1816 and 1858. The object was to force the relocation of the Seminoles out of Florida to the Western Indian territories in Oklahoma.

Yes I've shown this before but it is my all time favorite knife & pet photo. This was not staged, Tinker(Bell) stuck her nose in just at the right moment. A young kitten here, now 12 years old. She is a door ninja, favorite trick is hiding below the dog on the way out.

About the knife. This is the model 017 Thorn, a 2014 Legacy limited edition of 500 designed by Mark McLean. An impulse buy at a gun show, I could not leave it lay after handling it. Beautiful high polished dark blueing on 5160 spring steel and an interesting & grippy CNC contoured Rosewood handle. It is truly a little piece of jewelry and perfect in every way and came supplied with a cute little Buffalo horn stand.. That said, now about the sheath... OMG, what were they thinking?? In my opinion, totally uncomplimentary to the knife in size or design. Allen nuts & bolts? Grossly oversized for the knife and a poor fit.

It is small but I do wear a 2XL glove

Thank you Roger for the History lesson and for doing the Sunday Picture Show. I found this 110 in the bottom of a drawer. It has a CPM154 blade that is coated with TDLC (Tungsten Diamond Like Carbon) which is Tungsten Carbide at 72HRC. CM 154 is a high purity Stainless that resists corrosion at high temperatures and was developed for use as turbine blades in jet engines. Its use for knife blades was pioneered by Robert Loveless, and the CPM (Powdered Metal) version has finer grain structure and more uniform composition.

Unique shape knife.
I love the photo. It is awesome how they learn ways to achieve their goal.

My only non traditional (material wise) Buck I have. A Christmas gift from my wife. Given in 1990.

Here is the 017 Thorn alongside the Alaskan Guide 474 Caping knife (the same size as a Mini-Mentor). Both knifes are held with a finger on the choil. The Thorn fits reasonable well in the Mini-Mentor sheath. Not the best picture but you can see the size comparison.

skylercstevens skylercstevens I'd bet a penny those Eagles are at the Clarksville MO Lock & dam # 24 on the Mississippi above St Louis. A combination of high bluffs for roosting and fish rolling in the spillway waters below the dam is the attraction. The spillway waters do not freeze so it is an attractive winter gathering spot for the Eagles. Have not been there in a few years. Time to take a 'weekday' drive. (That is a Sunday drive for retired people :) )

Thanks Roger for the SPS history lesson. Those Seminole Warriors were a tough group. Also love your picture of the Thorn and Tinker Bell.

The bluffs at Clarksville are the highest on the Mississippi. There used to be a chairlift to the top. Unfortunately, there was an Indian burial mound in the way, so the intrepid entrepreneurs built the viewing platform and upper terminus of the chairlift on top of it
