Today is the 250th Anniversary of Patrick Henry’s “Give Me Liberty, Or Give Me Death!” Speech.​

"Give me liberty or give me death!" is a quotation attributed to American politician and orator Patrick Henry from a speech he made to the Second Virginia Convention on March 23, 1775, at St. John's Church in Richmond, Virginia. Henry is credited with having swung the balance in convincing the convention to pass a resolution delivering Virginian troops for the Revolutionary War. Among the delegates to the convention were future United States presidents Thomas Jefferson and George Washington. (Wiki)

It is in vain, sir, to extenuate the matter. Gentlemen may cry, Peace, Peace-- but there is no peace. The war is actually begun! The next gale that sweeps from the north will bring to our ears the clash of resounding arms! Our brethren are already in the field! Why stand we here idle? What is it that gentlemen wish? What would they have? Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God! I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!

Also On this Day, March 23, 2003. First American Casualties in Operation Iraqi Freedom. In Nasiriyah, Iraq, 11 soldiers of the 507th Maintenance Company as well as 18 U.S. Marines are killed during the first major conflict.
The Iraq War was March 20, 2003 – December 15, 2011, What a waste.

U.S. Military Casualties:
Killed: Around 4,492 U.S. servicemembers died in Iraq.
Wounded: Approximately 32,292 U.S. servicemembers were wounded.
Iraqi Civilian Casualties:
Estimates for Iraqi civilian deaths range from 100,000 to 200,000.
The Iraq Body Count project documented 183,535 – 206,107 civilian deaths from violence through April 2019.
Other Casualties:
Contractors
: Approximately 3,650 contractors were killed and 43,880 were wounded or injured.
Iraqi Security Forces: 17,690 killed and 40,000+ wounded.
Coalition Forces (excluding US): 4,826 coalition forces (including 179 UK and 139 others) were killed, and 32,776+ were wounded.

Thanks Roger for hosting and teaching. The pictured Buck Slim and BuckLites have been modified to do blade swaps. The Mineral Reinforced Nylon and Valox scales were counterbored (left hand scale to accept #5 cap screw head) and fitted with HeliCoils (right hand scale to accept #5X40TPI thread). These handles can utilize the old style Selector blades as well as non-slotted 110 and112 blades. #5X40 screws are 1/8” diameter (same as the pivot rivets which were removed).IMG_7168.png
