Hello and welcome to the Sunday Picture Show. Share your Buck knives with others by posting pictures of them here. New or old, plain or custom, user or safe queen, one or a collection, we love to see them all. This weekly tradition was started in 2010 by ItsTooEarly (Armand Hernandez) and Oregon (Steve Dunn). Help keep the tradition alive. Feel free to click that 'LIKE' but lets not let it replace discussing and complimenting each others knives. DeSotoSky (Roger Yost)

On this Day, November 12th, 1954 Ellis Island Closed
1. Named for Samuel Ellis who owned it in the 1770's
2. Federal govt purchased in 1808 from NY
3. Originally 3 very small islands, less than 5 acre. Land reclamation between 1890's and 1930's increase area to present 27 acre using fill from the construction of the NY subways, dumping of ship ballast, and dredging of the once prominent oyster beds (couldn't do that today I bet)
4. Although the original small island was in NY, most all of the reclaimed land was in NJ leading to a jurisdictional dispute settled in 1998 by Supreme Court ruling giving 83% to NJ. Note, I don't get the relevance if the island is Federal?
5 1800's saw primarily military use
6. 12 million immigrants were processed from 1892 and closure in 1954.
7 Interestingly a class distinction existed that 1st class passengers were able to enter the city directly while lower classes were transferred by ferry to Ellis for processing which typically took 3-7 hours. Sick immigrants would be quarantined in the hospital and denied entry.
8. Facilities were used to house prisoners during the 2 world wars

This week, a double opening. Picked up this nice Vanguard at a flea market Saturday morning.
Was excited to find it..... entering it into my data base, I discovered I already have it.
Oops, too many knives to keep track of. The sheath is different.... guess I'll just tell myself it is a variation. :)
Documented on the 2005 SP list. 2,400 issued.

Just bid on one of these and did not win. Very nice knife but I had a bunch of bids floating and didn't want to raise my max bid. I'd like to own one at some point. I have family in Queens going back to the late 1700s. Love Lady Liberty knives.

Did Buck ever put this into production?
That is an interesting question and I cannot give you a definte answer. The Buck Special Projects list has a knife called "Vietnam Memorial" 1986 with 100 produced. The artwork I have is dated 1985 and it is very possible this is the knife. Nowhere on this knife or artwork calls this "Memorial". So maybe, maybe not.
