Hello and welcome to the Sunday Picture Show. Share your Buck knives with others by posting pictures of them here. New or old, plain or custom, user or safe queen, one or a collection, we love to see them all. This weekly tradition was started in 2010 by ItsTooEarly (Armand Hernandez) and Oregon (Steve Dunn). Help keep the tradition alive. Feel free to click that 'LIKE' but lets not let it replace discussing and complimenting each others knives. DeSotoSky (Roger Yost)

On this day, October 26th, 1881, Gunfight at the O.K. Corral.
A gunfight lasting less than a minute between the 3 Earp brothers, (Virgil, Wyatt, Morgan), and Doc Holliday against 5 outlaw "Cowboys", Billy Claiborne, brothers Ike and Billy Clanton, and brothers Tom and Frank McLaury. In all, about 30 shots were fired. In the aftermath, Virgil Earp, Morgan Earp, and Doc Holliday were wounded, Billy Clanton, Tom McLaury and Frank McLaury would be dead. The actual location of the shootout was a nearby vacant lot, not the OK Corral itself. The "Cowboys" were a loosely organized group of cattle rustlers and horse thieves. In that time and region, Cowboy was a derogatory term synonymous with outlaw whereas the legitimate term generally used was cattle herder or rancher. Virgil was the Deputy US Marshal and town Marshal. His two brothers and Doc were a acting as Assistant Marshals. Tombstone, in the Arizona Territory was a rough place, growing from almost nothing to a town of 7,000 in just 3 years after the discovery of silver. Virgil Earp by necessity rode roughshod over the town and was not well liked by everyone. There had been friction between him and the Cowboys as he tried to bring them to task for their activities. The was a town ordinance prohibiting the carrying of firearms and Virgil's decision to enforce this ordinance and disarm the Cowboys was the triggering event for the shootout.
The Wiki article is long but fills in a lot of background and detail.

I like this video the best but be prepared to commit 12 minutes.

Buck 931 Clip Point Hunter from the original 1980's Custom shop with Mastodon Ivory handle.
Unfortunately, this one came without box or sheath. I've often wondered if Buck gets the Mastodon vs Mammoth designation correct. I don't know if there is a way to tell. once it is on the knife. Mammoth is more recent and common. I'm pretty sure permafrost finds are always Mammoth. I think If you go thru the Custom Shop catalogs in the 80's they always say Mastodon. (thank you to Skyler for letting me be the new custodian for awhile)

I was hoping for an Eastern Kentucky black bear grip-n-grin with a Buck this weekend, but they've not been cooperating thus far. I guess the houndsmen have been too hard on em this week. There's no baiting bears in Kentucky, and it's archery only right now, so it's no easy task. Hopefully we'll get on a could this morning.
Here are a couple of ivory 93Xs that are among my favorites.

Thanks Roger for the History lesson and the hosting of the Sunday Picture Show. Since they probably didn’t have a rule against drinking and packing, the ordinance could reduce the consequences of the the general mayhem. This Selector saw blade is a little on the short side to avoid bumping into the spring.IMG_8875.png

Wonderful Bucks!! Good luck!!!

Thank you Roger and everybody else for today's SPS! I love the stories of our history as well as your beautiful Buck knives. Truly exceptional.
If you see, someone has gifted me a Gold membership for a year! I'm not saying that one of you is responsible but this is the only thread I actually follow. I got my first Gold membership in 2005. To be semi recently retired, money for things like that are tight.
If it was one of you...I genuinely thank you.
