Hello and welcome to the Sunday Picture Show. Share your Buck knives with others by posting pictures of them here. New or old, plain or custom, user or safe queen, one or a collection, we love to see them all. This weekly tradition was started in 2010 by ItsTooEarly (Armand Hernandez) and Oregon (Steve Dunn). Help keep the tradition alive. Feel free to click that 'LIKE' but lets not let it replace discussing and complimenting each others knives. DeSotoSky (Roger Yost)

On this day. October 8th, 1871. The Peshtigo Wisconsin Fire ....(AND THE SAME DAY)... The Great Chicago Fire.
It seems like everyone has heard of the Great Chicago Fire but the lesser known Peshtigo Fire 250 miles to the North was the most devastating forest fire in American history as it swept through northeast Wisconsin, claiming possibly 2500+ lives as it burnt thru 1.2 million acres. By comparison the Chicago fire burnt thru about 2,200 acres leaving 100,000 homeless with a death toll of about 300.

September 2023 BOTM. 102 Woodsman with black Palmwood handle and a 154CM blade. I find the handle of this knife rather plain because it is a parallel cut not showing much structure. Palmwood cut on a bias is much more striking. I'll try to show some other Palmwood handles tomorrow.

Thank you Roger for doing the Sunday Picture Show and the History lesson. The lack of communication delayed the relief operations in Peshtigo. The scarcity of people and resources after the fire led to the utilization of a mass grave.
This is a method I have developed to sharpen BuckCote/Ion Fusion single bevel blades.
Photo 1, step 1) On a DMT Extra Fine “stone” (1200 Mesh/9 Micron), sharpen the bevel side, edge leading, about 10 strokes. I spritz the surface with tap water.
Photo 2, step 2) Wipe the burr, edge trailing, back into the grinding plane, about 3 strokes. Keep the non bevel side flat on the Ceramic knife blade.
Step 3) Repeat steps 1 & 2.
Step 4) You want to remove the burr on the bevel side without raising a new one on the non-bevel side. So take 2 or 3 strokes, edge leading, on the bevel side (photo 1).
Step 5, Photo 3) You want “steel” the micro edge, edge leading, to set the tiny teeth. This is done very lightly with just a couple of strokes on each side using the side of a Ceramic blade. Lift the non-bevel side slightly above Flat, lift the non-bevel side slightly steeper than the grinding plane. Think compound edge. But go easy, the Ceramic coat on the blade is quite thin.
I just noticed that photos 2 & 3 look alike. 2 is edge trailing and flat, 3 is edge leading and slightly elevated.
