Just finished reading this book on why/how some live and some die when faced with extreme adveristy. Very similar to Deep Survival but a more in-depth study with a more survival stories.

I actually have both the Survivors Club and Deep Survival, but am yet to read either of them. Work/family has been taking up a majority of my time, but I the next book I dive into will probably be one of those.

That's the next book on my list to get, I thought Deep Survival was excellent.

I could write a book myself about survival.. Although it wouldn't be the type you're talking about:D

Does this book give you in depth 'tips and tricks' if you will?

Each survival story is different in its own right, but what I find interesting is some that are unprepared and survive by making due with their surroundings, creating shelter and tools with nothing...I've never read a survival book period (although I've read short stories), would you recommend this for someones first read, or ??

This book is not how to survive in the wilds. It is about the how and why some people survive things (like a mountain lion attack) and others perish. It is WELL worth the read.

Dang, I wonder if I can find that in Finland, I doubt that... maybe the global flea market? *wonders*

Thanks Jeff-I finished it this weekend after getting it from the library Friday. Great read and insight into why some folks make it and some don't. I wasn't surprised about how faith played into a lot of it. I was pleasantly surprised to see I've added 6.6 years to my life by going to church every week ;) and I can get a bonus year by going more than once a week !!! Thanks again-love a good book :D

When I finally took the internet test mentioned in the book, I was rated a "thinker" and faith was at the bottom of my list of survivor qualities.

What I found that was interesting was how faith & attitude played such a big part in a lot of the survival stories. Experience and training also play a huge part. Reserved "Deep Survival" for the next read.

I agree. Scientfically though (as the book states) it appears it's simply the belief in something "greater" that causes the mind to hold on. In the end, the author pretty much concluded that havign a survivor mindset played the biggets role in why people survive things they shouldn't.

I sure had the survivor mindsit yesterday. LOL If I didn't make it through this land nav. course my 1st sgt would have killed me. I woke at 0200 saturday and started the course at 0400 - 0900 It sucked and the humdity was crazy Thorns and wait a min vines all over. I was sucking at life. But in the back of my mine I couldnt quit.By the time I got home and to bed Id be awake approx 36 hours. I slept great :)

Man, going without sleep for extended periods totally screws most folks land nav ability, thus the reason for such training, eh?
