I did a little commentary on my Sus Scrofa a while back, and mentioned how very much I like this little bugger. Satin Blue.Black G10..

Of course, we all have our personal tastes and mine was to smooth out the g10 into a comfort fit handle.

Jerry I have to say it again.. The SUS SCROFA is just one of the all time best designed knives IMHO.. I have knives from many of the best knife makers in USA and throughout, and so I am fortunate to evaluate many different designs and ergonomics.

The scrofa is still one of the best designed knives I've ever held.. The combination of the handle size, shape and ergonomics are perfectly synchronized with the choil and the double thumb ramps..

For anyone that has not had the fortune to use a SUS Scrofa, you are really missing out. The Steel Thickness is around 1/8" it is the most perfect thickness for a knife in this size which gives it a lot of strength, and also allows it to be a supreme slicer..

My one downside I found on the scrofa, and the same on my New LE Scrofa I just aquired is that in typical BUSSE'ness the Edge grind is too coarse, and too thick, so while it Cuts ok.. it can be a let down compared to some other companies knives for slicing.. BUT>> A tiny effort on the 120 Belt, followed by a 45Micron Belt, and some hand stropping and the Scrofa is now Convex blended perfectly into the flat grind.. Only needed to go about 1/4" up the blade and removed very little steel..

I can now say that this knife slices better and out performs just about any damn knife I own in the size.. Its more useful, more comfortable, and sharp as blazes.. I'll do a little video at some point to show how well it works..

It slices like a chef, Cuts Cardboard like a brand new Box Cutter, and handles everything with Aplomb..

The recurve is not an issue with normal Food tasks as you simply use a point down drawcut rather than a guilotine slice.. and it makes everything else cut so much easier..

OH Yeah.. It also Batons wood extremetly well.. :)

So.. Yeah.. I think its probably the most practical BUSSE ever made..

I do wonder what the RC is.. the steel came off like a bar of SOAP.

Yea Lycosa, you have so much you should be giving it away for free... :)

Liu and Lycosa: Uhhh...both of you have serious INFI addictions. Perhaps you need to seek advice from the Buddha...give up your material possessions and become one with the universe. Now since I am an atheist, i have no problem taking your stocks and allowing you both to transcend. :D

Pics or it did not happen.

I also like the SS. It has a lot of positives. One thing I like about it is the "tail" or skull basher on mine actually works great as a striker for my ferro rod. I have a stripped, re-curve removed, convexed edge pumpkin.

keep your eye on the exchange, you can often find them for a deal.

I really like the handle,

I would love to get a meaner street so I could get that blade size that would work better for skinning and butchering etc. That is one place where the SS is lest adept. But mine has a much pointer point than the standard due to the mod.

One thing I was considering at some point if I end up wearing down the sheepsfoot is to leave everthing as is, except loose 3/4" on the blade length and convert it into a Spearpoint.. This would end up being a Recurve into a nice Belly, with a good point for drilling.. I feel the Choil handle design is perfect for building an entire range of blades off it.. the EDC one that became available recently is a good example, except the blade is a little short and pointy for me.

Just remember, boys. This is a MINI Sus Scrufa. We've never seen it's big brother. (Altho I'd venture to guess it'd be something like the Marco Bolo, un-bolo-ized.)

Now, how the heck do you convex a curved blade on a belt??? I'd love to convex my Scruffy-do.

And I agree - grinding it down to a spear-point or a recurve with belly would be interesting.

with a 1" wide belt it is extremely easy, no different than anyblade.. You simply have to remember not to move the blade side to side, you need to curve it through the moon shape so that you are always at a consistent angle.

I have a blue-black/ satin Scrofa too, and while I like the looks and feel of it- I just don't like hawkbills. I don't know how I would sharpen the thing. I would like the knife much more if it were converted to a sheepsfoot style blade, as many folks have done to theirs (like Bigfattyt above). There's a reason the Scrofas lingered for so long at the Company store. I'm sure they're perfect for some folks, which is great. It's just not for me. I'm keeping mine though, because I had a super cool sheath made for it, and it looks so freaking mean!

Well.. you sharpen it just like any knife, but when using a stone etc.. you have to use the Edge.. a Sharpmaker, or ceramic rod, or a slipstone is the best for sharpening a recurve blade.. You need something that is narrower than the arc or curvature.

Really.. its all good ;)

Lets see this super cool sheath?

It would not be too difficult on a 1x30 belt, due to the skinny belt size. Mine started to get covnexed from stropping it a lot. I have a strop bat that is a bit thinner because it is made with a belt.

I would actually like another SS without the mod, because there are areas where the recurve and less point actually excell.

I honestly would love to see a big SS just for kicks.
