One of the knives that has impressed me most of late, and has made it into my EDC and work knife list, is the Svord Peasant.

It's a friction folder, based on an old European design, and made in New Zealand.

I was always pretty cool towards friction folders till I tried the Svord but its made a believer out of me. While the finish is nothing to write home about the carbon steel blade takes a very good edge. and cuts to my mind on a par with an Opinel....so yeah...it's pretty good. It's also not much dearer than an Opinel to buy (at least in the UK) so its all good news with the Svord.

I don't know what availability is like for the Svord in the US but they are definitely worth a try if you can find one.

Well if you want to try something new for not a lot of bucks, I think you'll at least find the Svord interesting. It can seem a little strange at first, but it soon grows on you...it did with me anyway. :)

I'm getting one, thanks for the link!

Edit: grabbed their last one. i've never been so excited to order a $18 knive.

Be sure to let us know what you think of it when it comes.

It's such a simple design there is nothing to go wrong.
The scales hold the blade closed for pocket carry and your hand holds it open
in use

Hope you like it.

Thanks, even if it's not right for me to use it's still a good looking knife and will have a place in my collection. thank you for turning me on to this knife. I will let you know my impressions after it arrives.

I have had mine for a few years. The carbon steel is really something. I would say the best I have seen. Ragweed, to my knowledge, was the first carrier of Svord in the US. The knife is also available in a plastic handle for 10 bux less.

God Bless
