My Sebenzas all make different sounds when opened. The large is more of a thud and the small is a higher pitched thwack. Mnandi and Umfaan even higher. Has everyone else noticed this or am I the only freak thinking about the sound of my Sebenza? Although they all sound great in there own right, I still think I like the sound of the my small regular best.

Which sound do you like best?

BTW... has anyone with a wood inlay noticed any difference in sound with the addition of the wood?

only the large Sebenza";) I only have the large models since I prefer my wome.........er, my knives large! It is getting late:rolleyes:

I can't say that I have noticed a difference in the large standard, large woodie, and now large classic with leather inlays. They all seem to open with a satisfying "ker-thunk"! Just the way I like them too!

My Large California Buckeye burl wood Sebbie seems to have a thick snap when opened. I just got a small classic with pearl inlay and silver contrast. Real sweet. It too has a kind of snap when opened, but being as new as it is, the lock doesn't set as far in as my large. Both my knives have double thumb studs, but I don't think the weight difference is enough to change the sound. :)

Hello, This noise is only heard when the lock bar snaps into place. Because other than that the sebenzas are sooooo smooth opening and closing that it is a amazing thing to hear nothing.

But what is really even more astonishing is the smooth feel when opening or closing. It would be very difficult to find a metalic object (like for example a S&G combination lock) that gets used all the time that is smoother and quieter!!!:D :D :D

I also think the sounds are also dependent on how used (or unused) the knife is.

For example, my 5-year old (well used) large has a warm ~ low pitched thwack. . .where as my 5-year old (NIB) large has a very rich ~ strong ~ deep thwud to it. :D

Sebenza's are extremely cool tools ! :D

Hey JTurner, I think you need to buy 3-4 more Sebenza's and give us an accurate scientific study ;)

FWIW, the small maple burle wood inlay I just got today sounds just like my small classic. I'll have to check at home later to compare it to others. :D
