I've carried a swiss army knife for years. Even when carrying a larger folder or the BK14, I've always had the sak also. I just couldn't part with all the useful tools, but rarely used the blade.

Several weeks ago, I ranger banded a small firesteel to my BK14 sheath. This week, I stuck some sak tweezers into the ranger band as well. Then I went into overkill mode, and began scrounging up any small useful items I could find to stuff into the sheath.

This is what I came up with. I call it the SwESsKaBar.

Firesteel, tinder straw, tweezers, pliers, and widgy bar

A small LED light fits nicely on the bottom of the sheath, but I took it off since I carry a flashlight anyway.

It still carries very well in the pocket. In fact, the extra bulk actually helps by increasing retention of the sheath in the pocket so the knife can be drawn without pulling the sheath out.

Great set-up man, but given how rugged the BK14 is and it's thickness is the pry bar really necessary? I really like the 550 wrap job on the handle as well. Where did you pick up the technique?

It definitely won't have as much leverage as the BK14. I really don't foresee prying with my knife save in a real emergency, so in everyday tasks, it may be useful, makes an alright scraper.

I got the wrap instructions from here.

Lots of other wraps to look at too.

That's a lot of useful stuff in a small package, nice going. I could see myself doing this day-one that I get a necker.

Quick, simple, and packed full of useful items. I can't think of anything else that you could add to that to make it better. For a fast grab kit, its fantastic.

Thanks for posting that up, full of great ideas.

having seen a carabiner of mini-biners at a booth at blade, i'm thinking the sheath has all those holes, so hanging stuff off of those... mmm loops of stuff, for stuff :)

mmm...

I did something similar to mine too. My cousin loved it and I put one together for him. Mine has a fire steel, saw, plyers, fishing kit, sewing kit, impregnated cotton balls, led light and three 18" snare wires. It's super low profile and still fits in my pocket!

I guess it takes a lot of cotton gin to get in the mood for that?!:D
