Am I reading this correct?
This ornate sword was one of several carried by the great General Maximus (Russell Crowe) as he led the Roman legions to victory on the battlefield. Wood hilt/handle measures 9" and features a golden medallion of Caesar on a burgundy background. Grip is white. 30" blade is made of hard plastic.
Comes with Official DreamWorks Certificate of Authenticity. Value: Priceless!

A Hard Plastic Blade?

Go on over to www.netsword.com and browse the "Archaeology of the Sword" and "Medieval Sword" fora or to the General Discussion Forum of www.swordforum.com. There have been several discussions of the movie where there have been referrals to swordmakers who make excellent Roman shortswords (gladius hispaniensis), such as Arms & Armour, Kris Cutlery, and Lonely Mountain Forge. Now none of these will be the actual props from the film, but they will not have plastic blades either, nor will they cost anything like $5,100. If you have seen the film and owning a gladius interests you, I suggest that you peruse these sites and drool. I have, do, and will. By the by, there are any number of books out on the Roman military and its equippage and tactics for those who might develope an interest. If you do, drop me an email and I would be glad to give you a starter listing. Roman history is a big hobby of mine, as you may have guessed.

PhilL, it's a movie prop, not a real sword! As I noted in my prior post, the real swords are available if you want one.
