I've been reading the book Shinkendo (Japanese Swordsmanship) by Toshishro Obata. I came upon an excerpt relating to the Heian era (794-1185 A.D.) This was the first time a samurai had come into power. It was also a time Emperor Antoku, at the age of 8, died along with the Taira family, and the Emperor's sword(one of the 3 great treasures of Japan, bestowed to the Emperor) was lost in the sea of Dannoura. It has officially been said to have been recovered and enshrined at Atsuta Shrine
