My girlfriend and I like to go out and have a good time. I usually wear jeans or dress pants and button down shirts. I have many ways to carry my knife. My girlfriend on the other hand likes to wear dresses. And here we go again. "You like it?"....."Yes baby you look great"......"Oh well, I'll just put my knife in my purse"......."What if someone grabs your purse?"....."Well that's what I have you for.":D So I decided to make it a bit more interesting and convenient for her to carry her knife. I'll admit, Angelina Jolies part in Mr & Mrs Smith gave me some inspiration. It had to be functional first and foremost. But also, it was for my lady which meant that it had to be elegant as well. I had the design detailed in my head and we went to the local fabric store and got all the materials.

24" of non-roll reinforced elastic
7" more of said elastic separately
24" of stretchable lace (her preference)
Needle and very strong thread (Nylon thread is perfect but I didn't get to use that.

All under $10 with tax.

Measure your ladies upper thigh at the height she is comfortable with. Add about 2" onto each side of the elastic to overlap and give it strength. Sew said ends over each other in a box/outline pattern and then cross over the box twice in the middle. You want to end up with your stitches looking like a rectangle with an "X" through the middle. Optionally, you can gather about 1&1/2" of material next to the stitched portion and loop it then sew it together to make a pen holder. Next, attach the 7" elastic band covering the the stitches from the previous material. Make sure to only sew about 1/2" on each end and one in the middle to make two slots. So now you have a fully functional base for knife attachment. Lastly, attach the stretchable lace of choice. To do this, just sew it at about every inch or so. Do not do a "dolphin stitch" This might be easier and faster but it will keep the material from stretching and then whats the point. Also, make sure to leave the area that the clip is going to hold at unstitched. And there you have it, a knife garter for the ladies. My girlfriend was VERY:cool: grateful for it. If done right it should come out like this or better.

:thumbup:Indeed!:)
Does that thing slip down at all? You would think that it may, due to the weight of the knife itself.

She did jump and shock tests on it. This one held a Tenacious and a RAT 1 without budging. We went to the IMAX to see "Clash of the Titans 3D" and she had on that black dress. Went there then drove an hour to and from Orlando that night and she forgot she had it on. About 7 hours of wearing it and there was no discomfort and it did not get in the way at all. Cars, theatre seats, and restaurants and no issues. Long term durability should not be a problem and besides this is not an everyday wear item. Good to go I would say.;)

Nicely done, as soon as women are uncomfy, they do not hesitate speaking up. I'm going to show my girl this thread and see if she will go for it.

jaytopointoh a real good idea actually this might be of interest to some manuf. functional, comfortable & fashionable a real innovation. thanks for sharing , please more pics Are certainly welcome.

Knife nuts.

Only a group of knife nuts would appreciate this concept. I am proud to be part of the group that can appreciate this, and have no qualms (reported so far) about a guy sewing undergarments for his significant other so she can carry a knife.

That's a great idea, when does the boutique open? If some ladies would find the knife to be too heavy, it's simply a matter of finding a lighter model. It looks as though it will handle some short, thin fixed blades as well. Better get a patent on that before Victoria's Secret gloms onto it for their Mata Hari line.

Should have applied for a patent - still could - before some geek see this and makes lots of $$$$ BTW, superb all round!
